And you can pull it with a V-6 as well,I tow a 1000' board feet of lumber 20 miles on a regular basis.I have towed my JD 4400 and bush hog. 1993 Chevy Work truck V-6 4x4,5 speed standard.

Go with a 3/4 ton or 1-ton truck preferably with a 6 cylinder in line diesel, just my preferance folks.

In all sincerity(sp), buy more truck than you think you will need sooner or later you will be using it. Sure the half ton can tow it but as mentioned what about when you are towing the tractor and you want to haul some dirt or a few bales of hay.

Read all the posts about those that have under tractored themselves, the same holds true with a truck. I have the truck I just need the tractor, hopefully a nice L3110 or JD 4310.

Besides this is America (some are in Canada but it still applies) bigger is better!

If Bigger is better then why would any one want one of them thar in line six Smokers when you can get a real Diesel with 8 cylinders ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Dave

Guys,

I think some are missing the obvious point when they say you need to buy a brand new truck for 30K-40K just because you want to haul a tractor.

Well what about used?
I bought a used F250 for much less than 10K. Sure its used and had just over 120 K miles on it when I bought it. But the diesel is good for at least 250K. So in fact this used diesel is the right truck for the job and still has about 120K miles left in it.
How many miles will you get out of that $25K-$30K gas burner?
Or maybe buy a gas burner with 60K on it? It will cost almost as much as the used diesel and you will only have about 60K of life left in it.
Just my two cents.

Not going to happen around here, those diesels bring much more $$$ here. Hmmm, maybe I need to truck shop in Arkansas next time /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Lawman,

The body was rough and that was part of the reason.

All I am saying is look what is available and do the math keeping in mind that a diesel is worth 2x the milleage of a gas burner.

Also in my area 4x4s are much prefered over 2wd. If you do not need 4wd then maybe you can get a deal on a used 3/4 2wd pickup.

Same here, a 2 wheel drive is very hard to unload.

It would be a pretty bad gas motor to only be good for 120,000 mile.
