Looking for USED F-350 - Which year/engine/model is best?

I bought a 2005 F350 4 door 4x4 diesel about 2 years ago for $16,000. Had something like 45,000 miles on it. Now has 54,000.

Has been a great truck. Was sold cause diesel was nearing $5/gal and no one wanted large diesels. Thing is i need a good large 1 ton diesel for my horse trailer. The dealer hadnt had anyone even look at the truck for 6 months prior to my buying it. He actually had to go have it washed before he could show it to my wife...as it was a dirty mess. i think they just gave up on it.

It looks brand new, and had a sticker price still inside of the glove box for either 45 or 48,000 (i forget which right now). So 3 years later i get it for 16k. not a bad deal.

Keep a look out for good used rigs. there still out there.

yep the sticker prices on these 1 tons are amazing. buying them a few years used is the best bet.. huge depreciation.

yup, they are a great deal.

Just beware of cavitation and SCA level in the Ford 7.3's.
Also on the 88's the a/c was flaky, the fittings used a little spring thingy that leaked freon out every three years, which was ok when Freon was $1/can.

Had a change of heart David, go with a GM way better product any day of the week, I will never own another Fix Or Repair Daily again in my life! GM is the only way to go!!

I WANT to be able to drive it and park it if I need to for work which is a LONG 60 to 75 mile one way commute with some of the worst traffic in the USA (I-95N from VA into DC) and into dense parking lots or airport lots etc.

When I was commuting 400-500mi each week I kept an inexpensive commuter car. Even when fuel was only around $1/gallon I came out ahead. With fuel price today it is easy to justify a commuter vehicle. Besides that, it keeps miles off your truck, and if you have to put one in the shop at least you can use the other one to get around.

:thumbsup: good advice, plus if you use a truck only when you need a truck it will last a long time. Before you know it your daughters will need something to drive too

I rest my case. Is it worth all this hassle and trips to the dealer? The darn thing just needs to run! It takes time and money to visit the "stealership" everytime Ford learns of another F.U.B.A.R. with their 6.0 diesel experiment. Even if they do pay to fix it. Just my humble opinion of course... :laughing:

I am lucky now I have a friend with his own shop who is an excellent Ford mechanic, if you have to depend on the dealer solely to sort out these problems then at there mercy for money with no warranty I would then stay away from these trucks.

Nice looking truck but that low GVWR would keep me from buying it. 9,900# in a one ton SRW does not cut it. They make them with as much as 11,500# GVWR. Heck, my 04 F-250 had 10,000# GVWR.
