Looking to buy a Chipper Shredder

I have a Mackissic and I am very happy with the machine. I chip and shred fruit tree trimmings and it sure beats the old 5hp Troybilt Tomahawk that I used for 20 years. I power it with a 17 hp Yanmar.

MacKissic DOES make an excellent unit. I have a 8hp tow behind chipper/shredder and it does an incredible amount of work very well. If MacKissic makes a tractor mounted unit, it must be a beauty.

I've put a couple of hundred hours on a Bearcat 70554 unit with a blower. Great machine! I used it for a weekend without the blower, never again. Its running on a MF Gc2310 [18 hp PTO] Run it on the pin all the time and the sharper the blades the better. I'd buy another one.

Charles, What PTO hp do you have to run the BX42? I was on the phone with Wallenstein this morning and they said 26hp minimum is required. Even then the tractor would be running at full capacity to allow the bx42 to run efficiently.

Don't think you mean't me, but I'll answer. I have a bx62. Its too much for the b3030 - it runs up to 4" or so though it bogs though. The m59 should run it fine, but haven't gotten around to hooking it up yet.

What I take from that is that 26hp or so for the bx42 sounds right - can't remember what the b3030 pto hp is, 24 or 26 I think.

Not full capacity on the tractor though, but PTO speed. Which is close

Woodchuckcunuk, I have a 45HP NH TC45. I think the PTO HP is 37. I thought of going to the BX62, but decided I didn't need that size, thought it was a little to much for my HP, and didn't want to pay the extra price. But, the shredder option is definitely something I considered and would have chosen, except for the added cost, and hopefully it will work for your HP. The shredder is good addition, particularly if you want to compost. In my case, I need to add all the organics to my garden that I can, because the glacier scoured the slopes of my beautiful Green Mountains and put it lower down into the Champlain Valley. With just the BX chipper, no shredder, it takes a little longer to compost.

We have Salsco 627XT chipper that can handle a 6" maple with no problem - I'd buy another but that particular model may be over-kill for your application.
Made in CT.

My Kubota B3030HSDC is pictured below along with my Wallenstein BX-42. The tractor has 23 hp at the PTO which is sufficient to chip up 4" pine. I have never detected any bogging even with the big stuff. I pretty much only have pine on my property.

:cool:Ok, I went and bought the Wallenstien BXM 42, there was so much information and i got so much help I can't tell you all how nice it is to have people guide you with experience and 1st hand knowledge.

I ended up at a buddies house who knew someone that owned one so we went over and watched it work, well i was sold.

Since I bought it i have used it for about 4hrs and it is an animal (this is all knew to me so what do i know) it chews anytype of wood without even a hickup.

The top feed pulls the small stuff through so quickly its amazing.

Thanks to all of you that took the time to give me your feedback and knowledge.
