I see. I should have taken some pictures. I assume it was 50-100 years of growth. Some of the stumps were pretty large.

They cleared my lot w/a large excavator w/thumb. Left a lot of very large holes in the ground at the time, and big piles of stumps and debris. I guess I was thinking w/a tractor I could do 1 a weekend or something and clean it up gradually over time. Thinking about it now though, that sounds pretty dumb. At this point I'm not sure there is even access for a big machine to get back there though.

What else could I do w/a spot like that? Maybe just plant some saplings amidst the stumps and hope it starts growing back sooner than later?

If I wanted to get back there w/my tractor to do anything I guess bigger tires and higher ground clearance would be a positive, even if it's unrealistic that I'd actually clean it up too much.

But it would be nice to cut a trail around the perimeter of my property... and if I'm making the trail I could avoid large trees. Maybe I'd actually be better off w/something small for cutting trails?

When I selectively logged my property for firewood, I purposely went with a smaller tractor as I felt it would be better in the woods. Used a B2920 for that and it worked well. Once we built a home, that tractor was feeling too small, so I upgraded to an L3200 (very similar to the L2501 but with 32HP). It's been a better tractor for 90% of the work I do now. But the L is much less nimble in the woods and needs bigger trails to do any work. The B was small enough to snake between trees, making trail work very simple.

So I visited the dealer yesterday, and walked out with a quote on the L2501. I think this is the way I want to go.

Seems like a good value with current incentives. Trying to figure out implement(s) i need. Really want the snowblower (land pride 1064) but quoted at 2700. Puts me way over budget.

The quote I got would have me right at 20k out the door with l2501hst, r4, loader, ssqa 66" bucket, 60"box blade, tooth bar, filled tires, and a center bucket hook.

So the snowblower in its entirety would be my budget overage. The other half said just spend the money and get what we need. (Which was a surprise! Lol) but still wondering if i could maybe get by with just a rear blade or something.

The L2501 is impressive in size compared to the b's and has a lot to like about it. Even if it isnt the most nimble in the woods I think it will serve better overall. Just means I need bigger trails! 0.0

Dealer recommended a landscape rake over box blade for many of the tasks I listed but with wheels its almost 1300. Double box blade price. Rough.

My one concern about the 2501 is maybe light on HP for the 64" snowblower. Dealer said w/hst just drive slower if it starts to get bogged down. Any comments on this or choice of 2501 in general?

I think i will add the snowblower to the deal and ask if they can cut a bit more off the package price to help me out.

Lots of used 3pth blowers on CL right now. Not a ton to go wrong and reasonably easy to service (low risk for problems with used IMO). Also, lots of box blades and rakes on CL (even lower risk).

Unless you want hydraulics on any of thoes attachments (which can be harder to find) I'd think hard about used. Not much in the way of hidden things to fail.

FWIW, with my root grapple, I use my landscape rake about 3x more than box blade.

For what you will be using the landscape rake for, you might want to check out the ones at Tractor Supply. You can get a 6 footer for $499, and can usually get a 10% coupon. I have the same rake and it is definitely adequate for maintaining my gravel driveway and I have used it for clearing my fields as well. There are definitely more heavy duty rakes out there but you'll pay more for them. Unless you plan on doing heavy duty work, this one will serve you well IMO.

Yes, but I think that is a reseller that post a lot of stuff that I assume sells for a lot less?

Deerslayer makes a good point. I have a 6ft county line that I have abused behind my B series and now my MX. I'm quite rough with it and haven't broke it yet. Never had wheels so I don't really know what I'm missing but never felt like they were necessary :confused3:.

Thanks for the input. Yes $1300 for the rake that I was quotes (Land Pride LR1672) seems like a lot. I did see the TSC rakes for $500 (without wheels). Don't imagine I'll need wheels for scraping up debris in the woods, but probably for driveway maintenance later on. Maybe I can buy them later. Don't see wheel kit on TSC website - anyone know how much they go for?

For any attachments it seems like I might be able to get them cheaper than new land pride equipment from the dealer. I think I like the idea of having dealer support on the snowblower though, and it will be a lot easier on my pocket to finance right now rather than pay cash, even if I can find one cheaper they are still pricey. So I'll get the snowblower w/the tractor and maybe hold off on any other implements for now - keep an eye on used or cheaper brands like TSC/countyline.

Can't close the tractor deal til closing on the new house, so it'll be a couple weeks still. I'll see if I can negotiate a bit on pricing via email this week.

Deerslayer where might I look for one of these 10% off TSC coupons?

Thanks

Not sure on the coupons, they just show up in the mail periodically. Go to your local TSC and ask how you can get them;maybe you need to be on their mailing list. Even without a coupon, I have asked for a 10% discount on a big ticket item and they gave it to me. Add that to you not needing to pay state sales tax and you're way ahead of the game!! :cool2:

I originally looked for a wheel kit for mine and was unsuccessful, but have realized that I do not really need it for doing my driveway.

You mentioned possibly needing a rear blade. I am planning to post a brand new Land Pride 6 footer on in classifieds here soon and will pm you with details in case you may be interested.
