For me the pattern is a leak or low pressure triggers the Toyota sensor causing the battery to drain quicker.

Last time I got tires from discount I was charged for new valve stems/TPMS rebuild. Wouldn’t you know it , they never swapped the valve stems. Two are leaking. On top of that, the tech never even cleaned my wheel/brake mounting surface. I’m used to driving 50k+ miles in a year so I noticed it right away. Felt like a un balanced tire. I will be going to a small local from now on for tires.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a tpms tool. Allows me to check the battery, pressure and temp on some sensors! With 3 vehicles, made good sense. Thinking of putting tpms valve stems in the trailer and can do quick check with scan tool!

???????

Had a lot of tires replaced in my life time. Never had a vehicle that needed the Wheel/Brake mounting surface cleaned. Now I have seen those that engage in Mud Racing have to have the mud cleaned off the rotors and drums when tires are changed.

Never an issue with Discount tire other than they won’t mount 17.5 or 19.5 tires.

They are my go to for city tire needs.

I use a smaller local outfit if I’m in town.

My wife and I do a fair amount of driving per year. In the 60-70k range.

Always Americas Tire but after the last run around on $1400 tires no plans to go back.

Had to put a deposit to special order my Range Rover and several days later I got the call tires are in… I said on my way the 35 miles…

Arrived and was told they are too busy right now and I could come back and they would try to get it out by the end of the day… over 6 hours+ later.

Asked if they could take me to BART and was told to Uber.

I left and got the tires elsewhere the next morning…

Called asking for my refundable deposit return and was told had to be in person even when paid over the phone…

Maybe a dozens sets in the family over 5 years…

It was the drive back to get my $25 deposit that frosted me… 70 miles for $25 refund.

I live in Michigan. We get lots of corrosion on wheel and brake surfaces. There was also a lot of grime from dirt roads. They never bothered to even clean it. When I removed the wheels at a friends shop I found small pebbles logged into the wheel from it being re installed without cleaning. Aluminum wheels , steel brakes , salted roads makes for a mess of our vehicles.

I hate these chain tire shops. I got a carter pin stuck through the outside tire lug, it was still in the contact patch. The tire monkey at my previous favorite tire shop would not fix it. I told him, fine, I agree the tire is shot, I'll but a new one. However, they did not have the same tire in stock to replace it. I said just fix it and when the new tire comes in we'll switch it out. He would not do it. I asked him what his solution was as he was telling me to leave with a hole in the tire. He said take a compressor with you. I wanted to rip this little monkey a new one, but I quickly saw he was the product of failed training. His training told him to reject any questionable tire, his training never told him what to do next.

I had a talk with his manager, not to tell on him, but to sarcastically shame the manager about their failure to train their workers on how to solve a problem for a customer. I asked if it was their cooperate policy carry low stock, to advise people to leave with a hole in the tire and advise of carrying a air compressor around.

I now go to an independent shop that did fix that tire and put it as a spare for me. It was fine the whole time.

I go through a lot of tires. That manager I thought was ok, but he tool was a cooperate tool on pressed to the fire.

Pretty much same here. For a while, I was buying tires on line, or buying from a chain tire store.
After several years of dealing with idiots, I went back to 2 of the remaining “mom & pop” truck tire stores and I am better off For it.
I might be paying a few dollars more, but it has worked out better for me. I like the people and their employees better.

My wife has an X-5 and actually buys tires from the BMW dealer. I thought she was crazy, but they buy mass quantities of the same Michelin run-flats and they are about the same price as anyone else, plus they throw in all kinds of extra damage warranties and they seem to be more lenient on prices of other repairs.

When we were still in the city we had 3 different Discount Tire stores about 2 miles away in different directions. There were huge differences in how they handled things. The one store really made me mad. I sent my daughter to get a new pair of tires on the minivan we had at the time. I was working that day. They told her they wouldn't put the new tires on the drive wheels because the risk that the back end would slip out on wet roads going around curves. I had to call them and tell them to stuff their policy and do what the customer wants (the tires had plenty of tread left). Still wouldn't do it. I told him to put the old tires back on and we were done. The store south of us was the best. They understood the difference between advice and dictating to customers.

Most of these annoying 'policy' decisions are coming from company lawyers giving risk averse advice because some idiot got in an accident and blamed everyone but themselves (or bad luck). Too many jurors see companies as 'deep pocket' rich people who can afford it. They award ridiculous amounts of money. Every other company responds by increasing prices and implementing policies to mitigate the risk of lawsuits.

I have thought about going the cheap tire changer route as well. Always seems like such a hassle to get to the tire place, then you have to wait in line, then sometimes it is free sometimes not. I do have a somewhat local guy that will do patches for me. But he charges $25 and it takes him like 5 minutes. I mean I get it, you gotta feed the family. But I think this might be another thing I add to my self-sufficiency portfolio.
I've changed all my tires for well over 20 years now. Tractors and all. I'm not talking about any little flower bed tractors either.
