Looks like a trip to the tire store today

Since this seems to be the most recent tire thread:
2019 Ford Escape, 21,000 miles (very little driving during Covid), OEM tires (continental procontact) down to about half wear. One sprung a leak, lose about 5lb of pressure a day. Another has had a very small cut on the sidewall for ~5,000 miles.
Decided to replace the 2 tires. Really like their ride.
Was rather shocked by tire prices. Best price I found ($262@) was at Walmart.
But BEFORE that the best price was at Ford, $313@ - until I got to mounting and balancing They wanted $230 for the 2 tires!!
Then I stumbled across Walmart, they had the same exact tire (brand, model, size, speed rating etc.) listed in 3 places, 1 as a group of 4 at ~$1300, 1 web page as $320@, one for $262@. So I bought 2 with m&b w/ their square trade warranty for about the same total price that Ford wanted just for their tires WITHOUT M&B.
Gone I am afraid are the days of, "Buy the tire from me and i will, remove old tire, mount and balance new tire and place the new tire on the vehicle for free".

That is almost as bad as the Michelin Pilot sports I will need when they wear out.
Tire rack has them listed for $405.99 a piece, hard to believe a new R 1 14.9 x 28 6ply for the tractor is less.

Whoops... just checked wow have tractor tires gone up now about $1400 delivered. BK had them 3 years ago at under $900

I was using Walmart's local store to get a decent deal on online ordered and paid for shipped tires until the local service center Supervisor had a melt down over me ordering for pick up locally .

He would not honor Walmart's own on line shipped pricing and demanded I RE order through the service center at about a 1/3 more, He would not release the tires " I paid for" and I then had to have the tire purchase price refunded to my card account. so now Discount tire direct, Priority and Simple Tire are the go to's

Yes, the little "fiefdoms" at WM can be quite the pain.
I found out in this attempt that the "online chat" has no feature for printing the chat transcript like most online support centers have. Instead I had to resort to screen captures.

Yeah,
I don't know exactly what is going on between Walmart corporate and their stores, but the tire shop manager said that the Walmart online ordering is in no way affiliated with the local Walmart store and he is the manager and does Not have to honor Walmart's pickup in store online pricing.
Decided to just go with the 3 online companies, easier to walk to the garage when Fed Ex or UPS shows up. No more dealing with "Walmart store shopping Joy's" on a busy day with a cart full of tires -when and if they can find them.

Sounds like you got caught in Wal-Marts catch 22 policy.

Maybe best to avoid…

A chain auto parts store was always advertising a low price but the item was never available and as a 17 year old it was basically out of luck from the manager.

I called the consumer affairs division of county DA.

Received a complaint form and went back to the auto parts and again asked for the sale item and manager said don’t have any… my reply is I thought you would say that.

I then pulled out the form and asked for the proper spelling of his name which really got his attention…

All of a sudden he could not have been nicer and promised me a case at the sale price and to call the moment it arrived…

I said the District Attourney is very interested and I’m getting extra credit in my high school class…

I don't get it, after reading their Walmart . com purchase section.

I did an internet search for the type, size, and model of tires with "best price".
Walmart . com pops up and has the best price. It has a ship to store / pick up at local store.
I do that and pay on line at time of order.
The ap eventually shows tires have arrived and can be picked up "notice is on Walmart.com"
Go to the store and then what I posted above happened.

Actually after thinking about it, this occurred twice. The first time the non manager credited my account back. He then sold me the tires at the same price but it took almost 1/2 an hour to re do the sale. Second time the manager gave me his speech and refunded to account and I just quit buying tires from Walmart.com and Walmart local store altogether. Well actually there was a third attempt. Needed a pair of small trailer tires and remembered Walmart had them in the tire section that is next to car batteries. The section had them paired with wheels and 2 of each displayed together. I asked an associate if it was a matched pair and if the $159 was for a pair (2 wheels 2 tires) and he said no the $159 is for a single mounted tire on wheel. Get home, had forgot my phone and sure enough the online look up price shows the same $159 and is 2 tires and 2 wheels .
I then ordered the same (2 tires and 2 wheels) from amazon delivered to the garage door, for the same $159 instead of arguing.

I AM BUYING A HF TIRE CHANGER!!

Thursday I noticed a slow leak in my drivers side rear tire. So yesteday morning (Sunday) I fill it up and take it over to Walmart to get the leak fixed. There were vehicles in 2 of the 5 bays in their shop and no one else in line. I go in to get signed up. The guy tells me it will be about 30 minutes it ends up being 40. Mind you it could have been much worse, but including the 15 minutes drive there and back I am into this adventure for over an hour. Plus $15for patch, plus $30 of stuff I wouldn't have bought if I wan't walking around Wal-Mart. So if you consider your time sitting on your butt, this is kind of a costly endeavor. I am only 48 so I honestly think it will pay for itself and then some in my lifetime.
