Hi Folks,
Been a while since I posted. I am an avid reader of the site tho.
I have a problem with the joystick ! By the way I always enter & exit on the left. When I push it down to float the bucket the stick keeps turning like it is going to come off.
I have read where the plastic ball inside wears from wiggling the bucket of which I do all the time to shake any snow or dirt.
Is it worn ?
Can I tighten it ?
Will I need a new kit and does anyone have any pics of the installation if I do ?
and last question what is that flat lever that comes out from the bottom of the boot ?
Thanks, hope someone can help me - we are in the middle of a snow storm. What a time for that to go !!!

Its a jam nut on Joystick has work loose, need to tighten nut under boot.
not real easy to get to.If that not loose you will need ball kit

The little brass colored flat tab under the boot is the joystick lock. Let the joystick rest in the neutral position and then slide the tab towards the stick to lock the stick in place. Not really usefull since I wouldn't depend on it as a safety lock or anything.

If its not a loose jam nut, or the balls haven't broken off, you might have lost the hex head bolt that holds the joystick pivot assembly in place. I had that happen on my ck30. I could still use the joystick somewhat, but had to really hold it in place. If I let go of the joystick, it just kind of flopped over to the front right.

Getting to the jam nut, ball assembly isn't hard, just inconvenient (at least on the ck30). You have to take the seat off, take off the 3pt control, the pull off the the sheet metal the surrounds the boot, then get the boot off and take a look. Its all bolts and cotter pins (for the 3pt), so its not too bad. If one of the posts that is hooked to the joystick floats up and down real easy (back left, looking down from the seated position), you lost that bolt. You can replace it without disassembly of the joystick.

You might be able to tighten up the jam nut without taking anything off, but I found it to be kind of hard on the rubber boot.

Hey Kevin,

As tractorhill said...tightening the nut under the rubber boot is a two second fix. It's removing some of the surrounding items to gain easy access to the inside of the boot that turns this into somewhat of a project. Trying spinning the handle around until it tightens...then when time permits remove some of the surrounding items...then there's two bolts to release the joy stick from the frame of the tractor....from there you can reposition the handle where you like it and tighten the bolt.

Edit: what pheesh said....:)

Hey guys,
Thanks for responding, I will give it a try in the am. As you say, I guess I'll have to take the seat off to get at it. I'm off all day and it's going to be blowing snow for the most part , I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the help.

Mine came loose on my CK20. I disassembled the boot area and tightened the nuts. Hope this helps.

Thanks Gerard. I will give it a try. I was going to take it apart this morning but it is still snowing out there and I am still able to use it so I will wait until the snow clearing is done just in case I mess it up. Does anyone have any pics ?

Same jam nut came loose several times on my NH TC48, I finally completely remove the threaded control lever, cleaned everything with carb cleaner, and then reassembled with "blue" locktite. Problem cured. I had tighten the jam nut several times, but it kept working loose. Now it's fixed, and can be removed if necessary. The block it screws into is aluminum, wish it had been a low grade of stainless steel, say a 304 alloy. May have added $2 to the cost of the tractor. All these manufactures look for cost cutting measures.

If you can still use it its most likley jam nut. Quick fix take finger and squezz boot and hand tighten jam nut, have lever 180%,1/2 turn off, facing back, with jam hand tight turn joy clockwise and you might be lucky and tighten that away. might save time

Sorry Kevin. I never took any photos of it when I took it apart. It's pretty straight forward though so you should have no problems. Good luck.

Yup, I concur, Jam nut. I had this issue on ck30, on delivery during demo of features. Service guy showed up next a.m. and had fixed in 15 minutes(wish I'd watched that!). Occured again on me two months ago. I tried first to remove boot from above(carefully) was able to loosen three sides, last one too tight. Even with three sides loose not enough movement of boot up to get at jam nut. So..... I removed two bolts that secure the joy stick valve body under user platform(did not remove anything from top of user platform, i.e. seat, 3pt, nothing). After removing bolts, dropped valve body down enough to remove boot(1/4"), pushed boot up on joy stick, positioned stick where desired, tightened jam nut, then re-assembled. Good to go. It is a bit of a PITA, wish the boot could be removed from above w/o disassembling anything, but alas, no.

I wish someone would've mentioned the blue locktite before now..... ;) That would have been useful two months ago, but something tells me I'll have another opportunity. Good luck Kevin. We're getting the white stuff here too. At least we'll be getting into double digit temps today.:)

Did the same to mine and worked great...was able to move to a more comfortable angle so I am glad it happened.

Hey Guys,
This morning while removing a few inches of snow with my CK20 FEL (49 hours) the joystick came loose. Fortunately I was able to finish the driveway with my 3 pt. snowblower (kind of handy having both front & rear capability). Except for the cold temp it was an easy fit. Took off plastic trim, removed boot, screwed in joystick, tightened jam nut, reassembled. Wish I had looked at the posts here first so I would have reassembled with Locktight.
My question is how does the joystick become unscrewed? I can not believe it has rotated that much in use. What am I missing here? And if it turns why does it not turn as much clockwise as counter clockwise??

I know this is probably a dead thread but I have to leave a comment and hopefully someone else searching will find this suggestion.

I had the Kioti loose FEL joystick problem although the float is working. It had turned about 180 so I had trouble operating it while moving snow. I went out prepared for a big, cold disassembly project but decided to try your advice first. Five minutes later I was back inside with the joystick where it belongs.

Thanks for the great, simple suggestion!

I may or may not have a similar issue here - so I want to ask if similar circumstances preceded the various repairs noted here. I'm on a DK40SE sled too BTW.

I jumped off the wrong side and got the joystick for the FEL caught in the coat and bent the heck out of it. Seems to still want to work although it is jacked so that I can't make out which way is up and down or left right anymore.

Anyone else damage theirs with a run in like this or similar? I'm trying to guage whether I have a fix like described or I'm in for more serious repair.

Also I bought the shop manual for the tractor and it doesnt say much about the remote for the FEL portions of the valve body. If I buy the FEL's shop book can I assume it will have more detail about the remote control for it? It's a KL401 kioti loader... I really don't want to buy the full shop manual for such a simple attachment - but if I have to I will. Just wondering if anyone has it and can confirm details about the remote being in it.

Thanks - new to using Kioti and new to this forum - looks to be an awesome source of information.

No it will not be in the 401 loader manual it is part of the tractor..
Generally what happens is the ball pops out of the socket. It usually will still work but like you said it is not in the correct position.
You will need a new cinematic kit.
It will set you back $29.65 plus shipping
If you look between # 2 & 4 you will see 3 round rods with little balls on them, this is what pops out and it will distort the housing enough that it will never be right again.

Thanks! That's a great diagram - I will pore over the manual again and see if it specifically covers my flavor.

Well, joy stick on my CK30 is loose. Still works, thank goodness. I will give these ideas a try, starting with this one
