Lost my key

Last Saturday, I was working my 1526 Mahindra and got off of it and for the life of me, I can't find my key. I can't remember what I did with it. It's not hanging where I always put it. It's not anywhere where I normally might leave it. I've checked my pants pockets. I've checked the trash cans. I've checked everywhere. It's just like they've vanished in thin air. Is it possible to order another key from Mahindra? Right now, I'm dead in the water until I get another key.

I’m not 100% on Mahindra but a lot of tractor brands only have one key. So the chances are high the dealer will have it.
When new, they should have given you two keys. My second key didn’t have all the plastic though. Check your files.
Lastly the key doesn’t “lock” anything out. So in a pinch the ignition can be switched by doing a little home rewiring.

only 1 key came w/tractor??? not unless spare key in package of booklet paper work etc.Call dealer darn good chance he'll have couple.

Dealer should have given you 2 keys. Mahindra and everyone else has several types of keys but they fit multiple models. There is a guy in Hawaii (ebay...heavyequipmentkeys) who has all you want and a much better price too. Look at the pics w/the posting and compare. He listed a key fitting 4 tractors and mine was not one of them but looked like the pic. Exact match. I bought from him 2x.

Each Mahindra series has it's own key so your 1526 has the same key as other 15 series tractors but it would be different than my 26 series key.

Maybe & maybe not. There is more than 1 style key but not many. I was also told cab & ignition keys are different. I bought ignition keys that fit a 2810, 3510, and 4110 and mine is a 2538. I took a chance by looking at the pic.

Your dealer will have a key.
Mahindra C27, C35, C4005, E40, E350, 450, 475, 485, 575, 3325, 3505, 3525, 3535, 3825, 4025, 4035, 4500, 4505, 4525, 4530, 5005, 5035, 5500, 5525, 5530, 6000, 6025, 6030, 6500, 6530 all use the same key.

NO ! hahaha Ace is the place I went to first. Everybody now uses these computerized key makers. That blank is not in the system so he and everyone else including a locksmith set me packing. The dealer wanted $22. so that wasn't happening. I tried ebay and lucked out.

Your 2538 is different. Try Bills Tractor. About $8.

This is the key to the OPs tractor..

If you are relying on the key to offer some security against theft, would it not make sense to change the ignition lock to a non-tractor version, so that it required a specific key and not just a generic key that one can buy on the internet or form any dealer?

Tractor keys aren't really meant to keep anyone but the odd goof from stealing the unit for a joy ride. At least not the ones I've owned.

You could or there are people who have added a second key switch or a hidden toggle switch into one of the safety interlock wires so the second switch also has to be on or you can't start the tractor. It's incredibly hard to prevent theft though unless you store your machine in a locked building. No matter what you do they just aren't that difficult to get running by a knowledgable thief and if they have a ramp truck or trailer with a winch then it's gone.

Good reason to put a big colorful tag on each tractors key to find. Especially in the thick leaves or snow. Sure helps if you have multiple tractors, too....

That is what I have on mine, a fluorescent orange key fob from my dealer along with a Mahindra key fob. I really only take mine out when hauling on the trailer but it definitely stands out if dropped or placed somewhere.

After losing the first key I put a long orange zip tie and a big washer on the replacement. Makes it easy to keep track of around the shop and gives me a fighting chance to find it if dropped in the grass or gravel.
