do you ever wander your shop and wonder who you loaned a tool too or where it might have been placed by you?? Me, well I have a few lost tool stories that I can't seam to get out of my mind. I know, let go! A few years back I was working for a factry that was closing the doors. The engineers were the last to go and we had "last pick" before the auction. I grabbed the drill bit cabinet. We had envelopes with dozens of bits of each size. Nice catch?? Well As my friends would visit I would set them up with my bundle and say fill your indexes and return the pile. At some point they never made it back :( I just can't remember who all got the gift. What a bummer though. And of cource there is the lost Crapsmen 3/8 drive ratchet that has some how walked off. Even my trusty metal detector has not helped.

Aaaa the lost tools.......

A few years back I loaned a brand new still in the box expensive paint gun I had never used. He would have done the same for me. Anyway he died unexpectedly and I never had the courage to ask his grieving widow about it. I wasn't going to ask at the funeral or visitation. Every time I saw her I felt it wasn't the right time. It has been almost ten years now and I just decided to let it go.

I hate loosing tools, about 6 years ago I was installing a projector at a local church. I did not realize it but I left a ratchet up in the droptile ceiling above the projector. BTW all of my tools have red painted on them, to designate them from the other a/v installers I used to work with. Anyway, about 5 years ago I hired on as the full time A/V guy at the same church. A few months ago I was up in that same ceiling pulling some wire and I pop the tile next to my wrench. I go up into the ceiling and just started laughing. What are the chances of finding a tool that I lost 6 years ago, I am positive it was mine because of the paint. I just wished this kind of thing happend more often!

I've found them in the oddest places, but usualy start in the kitchen. If not there, they might have wondered to to the clothes washer or dryer. hahaha

She has her own set of tools, but mine are easier to find, so they end up getting used more often. Unfortunately, the kids are learning from her and like to leave a tool lay where they used it.

On Christmas day, I refused to let our 6 year old get another screw driver. He had one out the day before and didn't put it back. I know it was in his room, but he forgot what he did with it. He realy wanted to put batterieis in his new toy, but couldn't without that screw driver. In time, and allot of looking, he found it.

I'm hopeing he learns, but at 6, I kind of think I'll be losing tools for quite awhile.

I had lost a new craftsman 3/8" drive ratchet , 6" extension and 1/2" socket. it was a new set and it was complete when I left Kansas with a military x-fr out to California. anyhow I drove out there towing a trailer with my at the time hotrod/street race car as the tow car. (only driver) well it was late september 90 degree day, and the car which at one time HAD AC but had all the ac stuff removed except for the condenser coil in front of the radiator. well it got warm heating up and I stopped & pulled the condenser, must have left the ratchet under the hood or on the bumper? well 18 months go by and I'm back tearing down the car to finish stripping the front end & rebuilding engine. found the ratchet & socket under the front frame rail still there only slightly rusty :D must have had 5+ oil changes flush & fill on the rad fluid & it was n't seen until all the sheet metal & engine was removed...

You've never dreamed about how many tools can get lost until you have sons who get their first cars. I not only had to lock the tool box, but I put a door on my room in the basement and locked the room as well. They both had their own tools but mine were easier to find because I put them back where they belong.

I keep taking kitchen knives to the garage for various cutting jobs. My wife gets upset when she finds them out there. If I ever find them all, we can invite the entire county to a steak dinner, and never run out of steak knives.:D She buys them by the dozen at the local cutlery factory, and I loose them one at a time.

Great minds think alike :D They all know where to find my tools, but I prefer if they - including my better half - use the kitchen set. Sometimes it takes a while to suceed in that search:)

While ago I started to buy outdoor tools with yellow handle, since our kids love to dig here and there but not always return tools where they belong.

While ago I tested lawn mower against bush clippers left in high grass- the mower won  and busted new clippers.
