I don't mean to stir up ownership wars, but as I eagerly scan the dealers and sales within 100 miles of home,( NE MD.) I must say I am seeing more late model blue tracors than green ones....I am not 100% set on a specific color yet, feel for my limited needs and operation either one will serve me well for years to come with decenmt service and some TLC /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif...

There are many green ones on the market, but most are 10 or more years old with thousands of hours.

Am I the only soon to be owner noticing this? Is this a regional thing? Do folks really trade in and out of tractors as some do with cars?

as the kids say'whassup widat...?"

Are you referring to used Deeres? Mine is certainly NOT on the market. Is it a GOOD sign that there are a lot of late model of a color available? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Is the fact that the only Deere's you are finding used are high hours an indication that the brand has problems? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

As to Deere on the wayside, I haven't seen any other brand keep up technologically. Now many folks are wary of technology, but to say they aren't keeping up? I know from my use that the small Deeres are loaded with useful advantages, ergonomically, reliability, and performance.

There are safety recalls that get a lot of attention. But that is not necessarily a sign of poor quality, but more often a sign that a manufacturer is watching out for their customers (or their customers lawyers...)

But the most valid point is the regional thing. There is a new member in Deere forum who is waiting to go pick up his new tractor. He saved $10K by shopping in the lower 48. Course Alaska is extreme, but regionally, there are a lot of factors which affect the strength of a brands presence

New Holland, Kubota and Kioti all make fine product, and are represented by fine (and some not so fine) dealers.

Just like Deere.

Tractor popularity is often regional. In my area there are still plenty of OLIVER tractors that are still working the fields and they were bought out about 40 years ago. As for CUTs, and their popularity in a given region, I personally think that is usually based on the number of dealers in the area. I've never seen a Kioti, Branson, Mahindra or Century anywhere near me, but then again I am not aware of any of those dealers near me (there may be one, I just never found it).

I can think of several dealerships for Kubota, Cub Cadet and Deere, and at least one for NH within 25 miles of my home. Those are the only 4 brands I really see near me. MOST people buy local. If there is a well established dealer/dealer network in your local area, then that is probably why you are seeing more of one brand than the next.

It is my understanding the Deere is getting a bit beat up over the problems with diff\rearends in the compact line, and people are shying away abit from them, especially the hydro models..........thats the story in the northeast- /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I do think the area has a lot to do with popularity. In our area you see more green ones than you do orange or blue. I am one of the minorities I own blue. I don't think I have yet to see any of the Mahindra's, Century's or Kioti's. In fact if I would have known about a Century dealer about an hour away I may have ended up with one. They are all good tractors. Each has their own strong points and weak points. If your buying, buy the one you feel comfortable with and most of all your dealer. Not one of them are any good without back up support.

What does it mean when you see a lot more late model blue tractors around than green?Maybe people buy blue and then get rid of it for some reason or other sooner than the people that buy green.
I think it speaks highly of green to see lots of old ones with lots of hours on them and still going.

good luck with whatever you buy.

Don't know what tractors you are considering, but take a look at www.equipment-locator.com. There are several low hour tractors on the market, nearly all colors. Seems like the dealers in Rising Sun and Queen Anne are offering some pretty decent prices on used. All I know is the used tractors I may want to look at are at least 150 miles away! Somehow I can't find great deals right around the corner.

It may be more of a regional condition. Is there a predominate brand in your area based on new tractor sales? If there are more blue dealers than you will see more of them on the used market. Around here there seems to be more green dealers. There are 4 JD dealers listed in the yellow pages and one dealer that sells Case, NH and Kabota.
