Lot more blue than green?

Deeres market share has been going down for the last few years. NH is up and Kubota is way up.

You would think with supply & demand being what it is that JD's prices would moderate a bit to enhance overall sales.

It could be an institutional thing. Various manufacturers will give deals to government organizations, for example, and suddenly all the tractors you see along the highway will be blue instead of green, or vice versa. Then, when the next big push comes along from the opposite color, suddenly there are a lot of used machines of the previous color available.

I have a friend that I go ATVn with. He works for John Deere out of Waterloo. He has a Massey. I asked him why not Deere and he basically told me even with the big discounts he gets he just wanted the Massey because that is what he grew up with. It is what they had on the farm as a boy.

I can tell you the Massey he grew up with is not the same Massey you can buy now. With parts outsourcing, almost all tractors are globally sourced. Some more, some less.

The main reason one brand may be more predominate in a particular area is usually due to the dealership. If you come to the county road where I live, I can show you deere after deere. Some where I read that back in the great depression that JD did not repossess farmers' equipment. Not sure exactly how true this is but I could see how it could make people brand loyal.

It is natural to be brand loyal. It somehow makes one feel better about their purchase. Some are brand loyal to such a degree that they "knock" other brands in order to put their brand up on a pedestal. Don't get me wrong, brands develop this loyalty mostly due to quality. This quality/loyalty thing takes years to develop. One bad apple(product) can lose a bunch of customers (sometimes for ever).

Hopefully, anyone looking to buy a new tractor, will read this board for hours upon end prior to buying. This way, they can distinguish between relatively newcomers who make blatant statements vs the long timers who have been doing this for decades. Hopefully, most will see the trends and end up with a tractor and dealer they are happy with.

There is no doubt that they are not the same. But Ford/chevrolet and John Deere is not the same either and there is still many people that buy what dad had around. I am only throwing in the fact that some people will buy what they are use to being around no matter what changes have been made. This was no way a slam to John Deere.

"Deeres market share has been going down for the last few years. NH is up and Kubota is way up. "

I live in the same area as Mr. Messick..who is a NH dealer, BTW.

I've seen quite a few NH on delivery trucks...but also many Deere CUT's on delivery trucks, new home construction sites and land scraper's trucks.

Now, I haven't seen too many Kubota's being deliverd...

I do know my local Deere dealer is doing well, and when I bought my rotary cutter (Land Pride) from the Kubota dealer, they had quite a few folks in the show room.

Along with other posters, I've seen no Bransons, Kioti's or other lesser known brands around this area (southern York County, PA)

In my area, you'll see more older Massey Fergusons than any other brand. If we're talking about newer tractors, it would be NH and Deere (pretty much equal). You'll have to look long and hard to spot a Kubota, new or old.

It's most definitely a regional thing.

Regional popularity I suppose. Seeing a lot of used equipment on the market with loads of hours is a good sign as far as I am concerned. This means they did their job. I just wouldn’t want to buy one-I want to put my own hours on a tractor.
Some times you can get a deal on a JD that has been on a lease program to wineries on the West Coast. Tough to do where you are located.
I have been and am still looking for a JD955 that is affordable. Those things are like gold in Oregon. You can find one for under 10k with 8000 hours.
All the nurseries out here are Orange or Blue and all the rental places are Green. I never have figured out how JD has cornered that market but they absolutely own the rental business in the Pacific NW. Home owners like myself tend to go with the best dealer or what ever matches their dogs best…or keeps their wife happy!

( I don't mean to stir up ownership wars, but as I eagerly scan the dealers and sales within 100 miles of home,( NE MD.) I must say I am seeing more late model blue tracors than green ones....I am not 100% set on a specific color yet, feel for my limited needs and operation either one will serve me well for years to come with decenmt service and some TLC /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif...

There are many green ones on the market, but most are 10 or more years old with thousands of hours.

Am I the only soon to be owner noticing this? Is this a regional thing? Do folks really trade in and out of tractors as some do with cars?

as the kids say'whassup widat...?"

In my area the Deere's out number all others in the real farm market. I would say older Internationals come in second.

As far as New Holland goes,,, there isn't many at all that I see out in the fields. I do know that New Holland is closing their big parts distribution center near me. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I can't believe they built this huge warehouse in 97 or 98 and now they are closing it. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I was in it about two weeks ago and they had rows of parts that they were throwing away!! New filters, seats, belts, and plenty of other misc.
