\"Lotus Organizer\"

In a quandry here..

We are going to be opening up about 250 accounts with a local union. The long and short is, their data on union members is contained in "Lotus Organizer".

I'm not familiar with that software. I asked if it can be moved to a spreadsheet..he didnt' know....exported in delimited format? No idea....

So.. we have this information in this Lotus Organizer, does anyone know if/how to dump it ulitmately into Excel, Word or Access?

I've got access to those on my system and will need to format/mine the data to make it logical for those who are opening up the accounts at the home office.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated...

Free rides on Brutus for any/all that come with something...transportation from your local to Brutus is your responsiblity. I'll supply the dirt. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Re: \"Lotus Organizer\"

It really depends if Excel recognizes the file type (i.e. extention). Excel can import many types of Lotus files. Best thing to do is try it.
Open Excel, click FILE, OPEN then, at the bottom over the "Open File" screen, you'll see "File Type". Click on the drop down arrow to see what types of files you can open.
I read a little about Organizer. It seems to be an equivalent to Outlook, so Outlook may be able to import the data. Since much of the data in Outlook are, basically, databases, one can import Outlook data into other applications in the Office Suite.
I've done just what you're asking (but not Organizer files) by importing into Access, then copying the records in Excel.
It may take a bit of thought and work...you may well lose any formatting (Font type, Bolding or Italics, colors..stuff like that) what you move the data. However, the important relationships (names to addresses, phone numbers, etc.) should remain.

Richard...

With your 'free' 30 day trial version... you'll probably like it and buy it... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Actually a few years ago, we sold the "Lotus Smart-suite" (OEM version ~ $79.) that had that included... and I really liked that program... I ultimately switched over to "Act"...

Richard,

I'm one of those accountants that starting using 1-2-3 decades ago and I still use Lotus for most everything. I use Organizer for calendar, contacts, etc. You can export Contact information in ASCII, ANSI, dBASE, FoxPro or vCard formats, and you can export all or selected fields.

Good luck!

John

I recently bought the OS/2 and Windows versions of Smartsuite. Still using OS/2 on my Pentium Pro ( 1 meg cache version ) machine. The OS/2 forum on compuserve was the only forum that I spent as much time on as I now spend on TBN.

Re: \"Lotus Organizer\"

When Lotus first came out with Wordpro...... it was a program like 1-2-3 ... it made people go out and buy a computer... just to run the excellent programs.

After IBM made the Lotus purchase, they never were aggressive to market the Lotus products like they should have been...

With Microsoft dominating certain sections of the market, I'd get emails with "doc" or "xls" attachments and finally switched over to be compatible and make life easier... I still have Lotus loaded for certain "templates" I did long ago... and never converted over to Microsoft...

In fact, I have a number of customers that use a sales tax template I wrote for SuperCalc... way back when... and these people still use it to this day... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Re: \"Lotus Organizer\"

Hi John,

"When Lotus first came out with WordPro...... "

As I recall (at my advanced age no less), WordPro started life as AmiPro and was purchased by Lotus who renamed it to WordPro and later absorbed it into the Lotus Suite of apps.

AmiPro was my favorite WP of ALL TIME. It was famous amongst writers. After it shifted to a general office WP, I quit upgrading it. Maybe I will go back and take a look at it again. I still have the original install discs!!!

It is true, that IBM never took care of their general software products properly. I gave OS/2 all I had. But the apps never showed up in suffiecient numbers to make that a viable OS for me. But I did love OS/2. I am amazed that somebody is still running it as a desktop app. I know OS/2 is still used in a lot of financial propieary apps. It will probably be running 30 years from now!

SuperCalc...

Do you remember VisiCalc? I revolutionized the budgeting process at the manufacturing company where I worked when I bought a Radio Shack TRS(?)-80. It was a tough sales job, and the president said the first time he saw me playing Pong - I was "out of there"!/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif.

Needless to say, I took all the games off that baby. If it was today, I guess he'd say "The first time I see TBN on that computer, you're out of here!" Oh well - glad I'm the boss now./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.
