a program like 1-2-3 ... it made people go out and buy a computer... just to run the excellent programs.
John: that's all too recent to be history. Visicalc was the reason a lot of original Apples were sold. It was one of my reasons to buy a first-generation PC - for more money than a whole network now. My sequence went Visicalc, Multiplan a little Supercalc then Quattro, because I didn't like Lotus's aggressive "protection" of what they'd gotten from Visicalc in the first place. Still got some .slk files around somewhere.

...WordPro started life as AmiPro ...

/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yes... I was thinking AmiPro and typed Wordpro...

A customer came in one day with AmiPro installed and I fell in love with it... I was given a copy and they upgraded to version 2 or something... I had to go out and buy the latest version because I loved it so...

Believe it or not... a lot of "pirated software" got many sales just like that... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

...Do you remember VisiCalc?...

Yes that started this revolution... until 1-2-3... until Excel... until...etc. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I used Multiplan at the time and won a copy of SuperCalc... so I started using that {because I now had a manual /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif}... ultimately now using Excel...

Remember when life was simpler... one word processor, one spreadsheet... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That's 20 years ago... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif... in the computer business... 6 months is history...

Many moons ago, I was at a computer show in NYC and some people I stopped and talked with at their booth just started up a word processor software company... I was writing in Pascal at the time and needed a better editor package... they said I should try their program "Pedit" they used to write the code for their word processor...

To make a long story short (never me.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif)... we exchanged business cards... and a few days later, UPS drops off this free package shipped from Utah containing this editor "Pedit" and another unknown Word Processor that I used for a few years.... WordPerfect for Dos... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Wordperfect for DOS

John
We used WordPerfect for DOS as our first PC based wordprocessor (after Vydek and dedicated IBM minicomputer) through V5.1, then "updated" to V5.2 on Windows 3.1. Funny, the machines never once locked up. And it was faster loading and operating on an 8088 w/ 16K of memory than WP9 is on Celeron 700 w/ 128 megs of memory.
If I could make an argument that TBN would have worked as well on my Hayes 300 baud modem, I'd say there hasn't been any progress at all.
When I drive my Power Trac, I never even think about things like the Farmall 450 or even the John Deere B. When W2000 locks up, I think of the good old DOS days.

The good old DOS days--before TSRs started messing things up.

Never used Multiplan or SuperCalc much but still miss good ole 1-2-3 when it comes to manipulating data within a spreadsheet. Particularly liked the Subtotal and Grandtotal functions. Excel still does not have an equivalent to those, though it can be done by using some basic math skills.

Re: \"Lotus Organizer\"

I started with the CPM version of Wordstar. One 360k floppy included the operating system and Wordstar. Control C, V etc are Microsofts copying the Wordstar commands. Used to be patches in the computer magizines all the time on how to patch the program to do special functions. Those were the day's. NOT!! Darn thing cost 3k
