I don't think I was being abusive & no I'am not standing on a table to type / talk to you . I would hit my head on the ceiling. From the start for you & norm . I posted to sailor bob that he could wash /clean up the inside of his engine by running synthetic through it & then came the dino folkes saying that he may have this or that happen it he runs synthetic through his old tractor engine. Then , I mentioned that I run synthetic in my wife's old van with no problems . Then, you tell me to read your 1 st. message where you said 1970 mod . when you didn't say 1970 mod. you said old. Now , you come back appear (abusive) to me because, you didn't say what you say you said ! whew!!! Hey, I'am fine here Having a good ol' time. If you & norm only like synthetic oil in some instances. Hey, I'am ok with that . I can stand up ( not on a table ) & say that we agree to dissagree & still get along. ON the bold letters in my post it was a mistake . I was trying to do something else & my son was talking to me at the same time I was typing ( I usually can't walk & chew gum at the same time ) I didn 't know how to change it so, I posted it any way.( still trying to learn this new format ) This wasn't suppose to turn into a dino vs synthetic debate.

I , frankly, don't give a rat's patutie what kind of oil anyone uses. It just seemed that you were having a problem with the terminology of "old" vs "antique" for some strange reason. have a nice day.

Old vs new is a matter of ones opinion . How old is old & how new is new ? Is old 10 yrs or is old 25 yrs ? I got the antique part when he said antique but , in his 1 st reply he didn't say antique he said old. He said read my 1 st reply & I did . It said old So, when I quoted his 1 st reply, he seemed to get upset. I made mention several times that my tractor is antique (if 25 yrs is antique) & I have no problems with leaks , etc, If you don't take chances with somethings you will never know the benifits those things have to offer. Weather its a new gasoline , oil lube , yanmar tractor , etc.,If sailorbob didn't wantto take that chance , I'am ok with that. I'am still his friend.

I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge of synthetic oil. But, there are a lot of old/antique tractors that have been running for longer than I've been alive on dino oil. I also drive a lot. I drive anywhere from 33k -37k miles per year, so as you might guess, I have taken several vehicles to over 200k miles and all were running strong when I sold them. Two were trucks that not only served as daily drivers, but did a lot of towing and farm work. I never used synthetic oil in any of them, though I have used oil that was allegedly made for "high mileage vehicles" on occaison. I don't know if that is a racket or not, and nothing seemed to run differently when using that as opposed to regular old 10w-30. I'm not saying synthetic isn't better but I have had very good results with dino oil. I know on one of those trucks, a mechanic ran kerosene (I think) through it to clean out sludge, then drained it and put in new oil. Is that an alternate fix for sludge buildup that anyone would recommend? Not being a mechanic, I just OKed it since he recommended it. I do know when I sold it people were amazed at how clean the engine was for the mileage.

I never tried that but I had a neighbor that did that in a 70's model truck and about a week later it burned a rod. That's one reason I've never tried it.

I have not heard of that in a long time. But it use to be a thing that was done all the time.oil was not as good a long time back as it is now.Back in the 70's I have ran kerosene though a lot's of motors.

Some flokes just can't admit when they mess up . I can say it & have. If you had posted classic ,you wouldn't have remembered if it was 1st post, 2nd. or
Hey roxynoodle, I wouldn't do that if I were you ,you know on older models oops, I ment to say antiques can't handle it. Now, on the serious side ,I've heard of folkes long ago using transmission fluid to loosen things up.There is an oil co. that offers an engine flush/ wash.roxynoodle, people have used dino for a very long time with no problems,.I even ran my drag car on the stuff for a number of years. Now days there's a new kid on the block that is here to make things better. Look where we as a country are with oil. If people changed to synthetic it would cut back on some of the oil production.& oil waste with longer oil changes. This isn't an oil forum so I won't get into detail but if you really want to know( & you may not ) what you are doing to your engine on dino. have an oil analysis done on your favorite dino & then a group 4 or 5 synthetic.I'am through here on oil as I feel it should be discussed futher in the oil section on an oil forum. Like I said no hard feelings here on my part toward anyone, even you Chris/soundguy:D I know you ,I and the rest of us have been & will be here for a long time to come :D

I did drive that truck at least another 50k miles after that. No problems. That was the only time I ever had someone tell me to do that with a vehicle though and everything I've owned gets high mileage with the exception of my '61 Corvair, which is my toy, and the Buicks (read below).

Synthetic oil probably is better, I have just never used it. One reason though is that it costs more and with all my driving, I change oil frequently. I am also the kind of person that when I have good results with something, I stick to it. I've never had anything go wrong with an engine, though I have lost the trannies on 3 Buicks, all at exactly 130,000 miles so I suspect they may be programmed to do it! Needless to say I only buy them when they cost $350 or so and drive them til the trannies go. Although my friend George says he's not selling me anymore cars that cheap because they last too long for me and he wants more money now. My current car is a 2000 Ford Mustang though and only has 120k miles so I suspect I'll have it for awhile yet. My current truck is lucky and has only had 15k miles per year put on it for a total of 45k. Due to high gas prices, the truck isn't driven as much as I would like to drive it.

Same here, could not agree more, good quality dino oil and frequent changes = long engine life for less money.
