Lowe's Veterans Discount Policy Change

Personally I think Sears can afford to give the discount more than maybe Lowes as their prices are so high .I was once a Sears guy.. Back when they sold house materials ..In fact my dads house he is in now came from sears lol.
I overheard someone getting 10 percent off at Lowes the other day for being a ''contractor''
So there seem sto be that leeway..

When I bought our LG frontload washing machine at Sears this year, they were on sale for $50 less than you could buy them anywhere else. To that discount, they added another 10% off. It made it an unbelievable deal. They did have to order the washer from their warehouse. It was purchased on Saturday and delivered on Monday. I backed my pickup right up to the store's loading dock and they rolled out the boxes for me right into the bed of my pickup. All I had to do was strap them down and drive off.

At Lowes, if you have a project where you are buying over $2000 worth of materials, it pays to give them a list and let them submit it for a proposal. The total discount on that was over 20% when I built my deck. Some things were just 10% off and some were almost 30% off. The total discount was 20%. A little extra attention to detail and a couple of days waiting can bring big savings. It sure put a smile on my face.:D

I just read this from a friend .
Went to Lowes today and asked for my military discount and was informed that they were no longer offering it to veterans, must be active duty, was told corporate sent out word of the change. The checker informed me that it was that way at home depot as well now. Have not verified if it is true yet, I guess that my shopping days at lowes are now at an end unless they don't have it anywhere else. Lowes and possibly home depots loss is OSH gain. Please pass on to your veteran friends. Hopefully corporate will change their minds.

Well, finally made it out to my nearest Lowe's today and had absolutely no problem asking for and receiving the discount. I guess it's either a "rogue" store denying the discount or another "urban rumor."

The discount seems to be "depends". Some parts of the country are more "veteran friendly" than others. It also depends on the individuals in the store. Some of the cashiers are clueless as to what a DD214 is. I went into a store and was denied the discount, 3 days later I went into the same store and received the discount. Just a different person in the same store.

The Lowes store near me needed copy of DD214 and the employees seem confused when I asked about the discount. I stopped by the post office and picked up several of the " I just moved " packets with change of address forms. Lowes has 10% off coupons in the packet.

It may depend on the store. When I lived by Alexandria, all I had to do was ask (Home Depot). In Bemidji they (Home Depot) want to see a copy of my DD214. Not a real problem, but they did miss out on a $8,000 purchase for new kitchen cabinets. We went to place the order and told me they needed to see a copy. I said fine I will bring it in next time I come. The wife and I thought over the purchase and decided to go with a smaller company that we has also priced out cabinets.

the employees seem confused

In my experience, that's pretty much the norm for Lowes. Some of the employees at my local Lowes make Homer Simpson look like a rocket scientist. It seems so bad at times that drool cups should be mandatory. The only store I can think of that's worse is none other than WalMart, which I avoid like the plague.

I am retired Navy and ask for the discount all the time, everywhere I go. Everything being equal I will shop where they offrer the military discount even if the price is a little more. Lowes and HD are close so use them a lot. I have shopped at NAPA for auto parts for 40 years because of their superior service plus they either give me the Military price or Fleet price which ever is cheaper. Sure builds my loyalty and I tell others. We have two farm store chains close; DEL's (part of TSC) and WILCO. WILCO gives a milirary discount DEL's doesen't. Guess where I buy? WILCO also has better pricing and a larger line of merchandise plus is great on special orders as a way to save shipping costs.

The Sears store in Roseburg, OR is closing in April everything is 25% off. I never heard of any of the local stores giving a discount for Vets.
