I bought a 2012 Case IH Farmall 40B Shuttle Shift (being delivered tomorrow) it is the same tractor as the LS R4041 as I understand it. I went to the IH dealer to get the hydraulic fluid for it and they could not tell me how much I needed. They said it wouldn't be more than 10 gal. Well, according to the LS manual which I found on line but could not find anything for Case IH, it takes 11.4 gal. So I'm a couple gallons short.

Also, they sold me the Hy-Tran Case IH fluid and I assume that will work fine.

I'm going to be doing a 50 hour service on it on Friday so I'd like to get everything by tomorrow. What hydro fluid are you LS guys using for a SS transmission on the LS R4041? The Case info is so sparse, I'm using the LS downloaded PDF manual.

This tractor only has 95 hours on it but I'm basically doing a 50hr. service since I don't know how long the fluids have been in it.

Most hydraulic fluids will work for your tractor. The manual specifies a ISO 46/68 so look for that. I typically use Travelers ISO 46 at Tractor Supply.

That said, you probably do not need to replace your hydraulic fluid for a while yet. 50hrs is a filter change, not a fluid change. The filter change is necessary because it is the break in filter, and is probably getting filled up with metallic particles. The fluid itself is fine. Change the fluid at 300hrs if you feel the need.

Thanks, I just went with the recommendation from the Case dealer, Hy-Tran, wasn't that terrible of price. I did also change the filter.

I don't know how long the fluid has been in the tractor. It could have been in there 10 years for all I know.

Far as I'm concerned, the only thing TSC Traveller Hydraulic fluid or their branded Traveller motor oil is good for is accelerant to start my brush piles on fire with.

I would never use that crap. You get what you pay for and cheap is cheap. My 2 cents.

TSC also sells Shell Rotella AW 40 and 46 Hydraulic oil in 5's and I use that in one of my Kubota M9's the one that sits all winter unused, the other gets Chevron All Weather THF synthetic because it's flow characteristics in the dead of winter is excellent and I plow with it.

The Rotella Hydraulic Fluid at TSC is a bit more expensive that the Traveller crap, but like I said, you get what you pay for...always.

Don't ask how much the Chevron Synthetic costs, you don't want to know, lets just say it's more than the Kubota SUDT2. Good stuff, hard to find and it comes dyed orange of all things. Been using it for years now. 15 gallons at a change.
