One thing about the regenerative process and that is, at least with Kubota tractors that are emissions compliant, the components will only preform so many regens and then have to be replaced. I seem to remember that Kubota lists a thousand regens before component replacement which should equate to many years before replacement is required, so long as the system regens normally.

One thing do know (at least with Kubota tractors) is, over riding the regeneration process continually, will result in bad things happening. The cannister gets plugged up and backfeeds exhaust back into the engine which results in engine failure. There was one in the shop last year (M series) where the owner did that and wound up replacing the engine because it was literally toast. I don't know if Kubota warranted it or not and I didn't ask.

Myself, I look at the whole pollution abatement ias a waste of fuel, complex componentry and expense down the road for the next owner. At some point. someone will have to pay for the replacement of the components as they have a finite life.

Might not be the origional owner but some owner down the line will and the guarantee is only for 5 years (EPA Mandate). I suspect that is one reason why pre 4 tractors command high prices.

That's one of the main bothersome things. I have excessive wear on a very expensive system to replace.

I strongly suspect that in most cases the origional owner won't be on the 'hook' for the replacement of emissions components but, someone down the line will and it will be past the EPA 5 year replacement guarantee.
Today, every 'for sale ad' I see always states ' not an emissions' tractor.

Something you never see concerning used cars at all simply becsause everything automotive related has emissions controls today and for the most part are issue free, even diesel powered cars (not too many) and light trucks.

When the EPA instuted the T4-5 emissions standards, all the tractor builders 'had' to comply but they did it in haphazard manner.

I cannot wait to see what T6 will bring if it even comes about as this administration don't appear to be looking to make it more stringent.

Maritime is a different story however.

I do remember with heavy trucks, all the issues they had, some of which are continuing. When I retired from the industry, issues with DEF injection were commonplace and I believe are still and why you see non emissions heavy trucks still being operated and rebuilt today. Not fleet trucks but private owned ones. When I retired, over 50% of the repairs in the shop were emissions related.

It's hard to believe we are still discussing this topic as if DPF's are somehow a bad idea or unreliable technology.

You guys.

DPF's have been used on diesel engines since the mid 80's, and were widely adopted globally for trucks somewhere more like 20-25 years ago.

The technology is not complicated, and is quite robust for the vehicle lifetime when engineered and utilized properly. It is a shame that some low-cost tractor manufacturers screwed up the DPF integration so poorly as to spread this idea that somehow reducing the emissions of nasty particulates is somehow a bad idea.

I for one love how clean my exhaust is on my Kioti. I can start it in the garage without a trace of smoke, and it regens ~40-50 hours perfectly normally, and you can work right through it. The fuel consumption impact is negligible overall.

Sorry to hear about your issues.

Having owned diesel trucks with costly emissions issues, I absolutely was not buying a tractor with a lick of emissions on it. Thankfully for me, I was able to avoid it.

I'm happy for you...lol Far as big trucks are concerned, DPF units wiich are referred to in the trade as "One Boxes' are sill having issues today and why Caterpillar got out of the on road engine business. and... Nothing stinks worse than an overdosing DEF injection unit... I not so fondly remember tactors parked outside the shop with dosing issues, stinking up the back lot after being repaired to get the excess DEF out of the exhaust system. Once you smell DEF burning off, you'll never forget the stink or your eyes watering...

For me, DEF has a positive non emissions use. I regularly buy outdated DEF in IBC totes from various outfits around here and I spray it on my alfalfa fields as all DEF is, is deionized water and urea and my alfalfa loves urea. Have 2 IBC totes in the barn presently. When empty I sell them on FB marketplace.
