I was a diesel mechanic. Rarely saw oil you could paint with. If someone neglects the oil, they generally neglect everything else too, with the exception of the fuel tank. Bucket/lift zerks were clean. No grease/dirt on them, or around the seals.
Glad I got this before 250 hours. Can you imagine what it would have been like at 500?
Is it possible he just pressure washed it to make it look better before putting up for sale? I'm kind of sloppy with the grease gun so even after a basic cleaning there's still evidence of where I've greased. But someone neater or taking a little more time with the pressure washer? Only the recessed areas right at the zerks on my loader stay a little cruddy after I clean the machine. The excess that seeps out gets knocked off in the process.
When I changed my oil @ 50 hrs it looked pretty dark. Equivalent to my truck which goes 5k between changes on full synthetic. 50 hrs is first change, 250 is next for engine oil. I would say if my oil had 4x the time on it, it wouldn't look all that great. You said you're under 250 hrs & 250 hrs is the oil change interval after the initial, so I wouldn't stress too awful much.
There's nothing to do with the hydr fluid other than changing the filters @ 50 hrs and then topping off. Otherwise, it just gets checked. If some needs added outside of replacement for filter change, something is wrong. If it looks off compared to new fluid, something is wrong. Main suction filter and oil filters are pretty easy to see. Fairly common practice to write date/hrs on them when changing. Not 100% practice, but looking for signs of notes on the filters could be a clue that they were changed.
I'd look at the radiator filter screen and radiator itself. That would be a sure sign of neglect to me. The entire front of my machine is supercharged shop vac and I'm frequently cleaning grill vents, radiator screen, and radiator fins. Would be REAL obvious if this wasn't taken care of frequently unless only used for snow plowing or something where it never saw leaves, dust, brush, weed seeds, etc.
