Ls3010
Trying to help my son get an older LS3010 to start, there is no fire to the trigger wire, and he has two wires that seem to go to a hot terminal (16 gauge with a 3/8" brass eyelet). Do they both go to the always hot starter solenoid? Also, he has to replace the key switch with an aftermarket universal unit ... do the small wires go to a relay for the glow plugs?

Thanks for any help on the issues

I am not sure about this specific model that you are working with. Sometimes the original switch applies voltage to the thermostart via a 10 gauge wire everytime you hit the starter. The idea is that you use the transmission disconnect switch to disable the starter, and hold the switch in start to energize the thermostart (glow plug) for 20 secs, then take the tractor out of gear and crank the engine. Who thought that idea up was trying to save money at manufacture. Using a relay and a smaller gauge wire for control is a concept that has been around since the early 1900's. I modified my tractor by adding a momentary switch and a relay for the glow plug circuit. Some of the older tractors had a key that would turn backwards to energize the glow plugs in a separate function from the starter circuit which makes sense.
