lubricating joystick on 4310

The joystick became "stiff" and difficult to move last fall. Unless I just can't locate the info in the manual, there seems to be no easy way to lubricate the joystick. I pulled the rubber flexible cover off and still can't figure an easy access.

Ideas/exerience appreciated. Thanks.

This may indicate a problem with the DSCV on your tractor. On my 4400 the joystick is connected to it with very little linkage. Might be worth a call to your dealer.

Unless your joystick is a lot different than mine, you should be able to almost make a 360 swing with it. If not the linkage is probably corroded and needs to be lubed. I lube mine every few hours, dust and water can get to the linkage. Try some wd40 to get it loose and then squirt a little oil on each linkage joint. If that does not sovle it then you might have a problem witht the valve body itself as stated above.

Mine is sticky too. The dealer said it happens whenever the tractor sits for too long. I have 45 hours and I will complain when I take it in for the 50 hour service. That may be another month from now.
Keep us posted on what any dealers say, if enough complain, maybe JD will put out a memo to fix.

I've got a 4310 as well, with around 40 hrs. The joystick on the DSCV also became sticky around 25 hours -- I pulled the rubber boot off the base of the stick, and lubricated the pivot point of the stick -- voila, the stick has returned to its usual free range of motion. In short, have a look under the rubber boot, and from below (just inside of rear right whell, see if there is any mud up in there, and give it a squirt of WD40 or some other lubricant (I don't think WD 40 is technically a "lubricant").

Thanks for the replies thus far. I'm sure there are several points that may require lubrication. I did spray some lubricant on the pivot points that I can see, but have not been able to "reach" all of the connecting parts, as far as I can tell.

Any dealers or individuals with manuals out there who might help? JMIII, is this in your ballpark? Thanks,

blurrybill, wlecome back! I wondered where you have been all winter. I would love to see some progress pictures on that beautiful property of yours.

Thanks for the welcome back, Spence. We hope to start construction later this summer. Do have the 300' lane base and rural water in. Finally learned about track hoes and dozers as many of the Eastern Cedars we wanted removed are gone. The Land looks quite different in places -- this has all been a long time coming.

I will post some pictures in the near future. I have made a purchase of some Midwest implements and I'm waiting for delivery of those -- then I'll really get started on some tractor projects. Thanks for remembering.
