LX3310 Exhaust Smell

Mine don't smell like anything but diesel exhaust....

To me not necessarily a good thing. I dont run my 45 year old MF inside the shop much but have no issues with the 2018 Kubota. And I dont stink of diesel the rest of the day.

Same with my new LX3310 for the first 5 hours. I am hopeful that when I get a chance to run it hard for a while it will stop as others seem to suggest, but it does seem very weird and would be intolerable if it were to be a thing for the life of the tractor. Definitely not a warm engine burning off shipping/manufacturing oil residue and paint - as said by others it begins immediately after startup.

Re: LX3310 Exhaust Smell, Eyes and Sinus Burn

Its all normal guys, I run mine in my pole barn for a few minutes till hst warms a bit, it is much cleaner than a non emissions diesel, but i would rather be with out that garbage.

I agree.

Do you have a new LX3310?

No, this is absolutely not normal diesel smell at all, this is completely different. But I've only been around diesel tractors and trucks for 65 years.

Do you have a new LX3310? What exactly are you agreeing with if you have no experience with them?

No, i dont own one, but a couple people i know, do, and theirs does the same thing. So it seems to me, its one of those "as per design" things comes to mind. Run it, it is what it is. When it quits running, call your dealer.

......or maybe, trade it back in and buy something else if you`re that unhappy with it.

EDIT:
So i see at post #29, i see the tractor suddenly fixed itself?

Semi's before DEF, pumped fuel into exhaust stack getting up to 1800 degrees during regen. Smelled like a malfunctioning kerosene heater. That and other issues semi's had I purchased 2 kabotas both under 27hp.

Re: LX3310 Exhaust Smell, Eyes and Sinus Burn

There are plenty of unusual smells, knocks, whines, etc that will go away and / or never be definitively diagnosed.
What I found most unusual about the op's problem was that it occurred immediately after startup with a cold engine. I'm glad that whatever the issue was has resolved.

My lx3310 has 16 hours on it and I'm experiencing this as well. This may be normal for this model, but I have a hard time believing it is typical to DPF tractors, it is quite toxic and visible.

It intermittently occurs, with increasing frequency. It emits white smoke and the exhaust if very toxic. It seems as if it's non-combusted diesel and occurs at all engine RPMs and temperatures. The tractor just completed it's first regen and it seems to be becoming more frequent. I'll post a link to the video of the smoke when I hit 3 posts.

I'm looking for someone with more experience with Kubota Tier 4 tractors to validate whether this is typical or atypical.

Thanks in advance.

Hows your tractor running? ive had it with my B3350, pricing a lx3310, pending what the dealer can do on trade in, maybe tomorrow

My LX3310 had the awful exhaust smell described here, until the first regen. It's still there from time to time (18 hours currently) but no where near as bad as when I first got it - the smell stuck to whatever I was wearing if I was working outside the cab (chipping branches) during the first few hours.

My advice would be plan some heavy work to get it nice and hot a few times, that should speed up the process. Expect it to get smoky the first time you work it hard, then other than a bit during the first regen, it hasn't smoked since.

This is otherwise not at all typical of DPF Kubotas - my L6060 exhaust has virtually zero smell once warmed up, to the point of being able to use it inside and not being able to smell it. Hopefully the LX3310 ends up the same.

Update on mine: First 6 hours - as mentioned earlier - had acrid smell immediately upon start up and it was persistent. At 6.5 hours I happened to get grill covers from a guy on OTT. Put those on and ran it hard for an hour (snow removal via mid-PTO), got so hot that the EM light went on and I had to take off the covers to cool it down. The smell was there at the start, but was gone about the time the EM light popped. Ran it 3 more hours on and off over the next few days with varying temp/exertion levels and had no unexpected smells at all - it is apparently fixed. Anecdotally seems like there is something that is being generated by the engine/emission system that stops after the engine has been worked hot/hard - and for some the first regen serves that purpose.

Re: LX3310 Exhaust Smell, Eyes and Sinus Burn

Another smelly lx3310, only 3 hours, but man it will choke you and burn your eyes, and it will stink up a garage in a hurry, and it doesn’t just air out with doors open, . We aren’t getting much snow so hard to get it hot.

^^ OP here, yea, my issue started different than any diesel-powered equipment I've worked in my 65 years, this was completely different. Acrid-eye-watering smell the instant I started a cold engine. After my first re-gen at ~18 hours and the few hours after, relatively little objectionable smell sense. I initially questioned whether Kubota added a fuel additive (for the right reasons) into the tank for initial break-in, causing the smell. IDK..... Carry on, thanks

Re: LX3310 Exhaust Smell, Eyes and Sinus Burn

That smell is from the engine not being hot enough. Teir 4 is meant to be work hard and hot my l3901 does the same thing until it is hot but i use it for at least and hour of work every time i use the machine. 48 hours and no regen yet

Just a follow up on exhaust smell at 75 hrs on my lx 3310, Ive had 3 regens, all while operating, smell, not bad, but overall, if your out and around it while its normaly running it’s pretty strong. Other than that runs great, starts much quicker than my B3350 did. love it.
