LX6 vs. MX6

   / LX6 vs. MX6 #41
I know I would tear up a LX6, I went with the MX6 and it is awesome. I had a LX4 on my 2210 and I think it was sized right but with my 4720 and 5525 - no way would I go with a LX.

Well - I'm sold on the MX6 and ordered it today. Quick question - do you really need a slip-clutch on it? The dealer mentioned this, but I didn't see anything in the purchasing guides regarding a slip clutch. I suppose I could check the Deere site...

Either way it's ordered! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi rmonio,

You definitely want the slip clutch to protect you tractor's driveline from the shock loads of the RC--it allows tractor side to continue to spin when RC side fetches up on things.

You could get a shaft with shearpins, but the MX would probably snap them off routinely.

Otherewise driveline would "grind to a halt" when RC blades/gearbox/spline stop turning.

Is the slip clutch standard on the unit? I can't find it anywhere in the brochure!? It looks like everything is standard on the unit - including the chains.

Mike - any comments on this?

Hmm. Checked the Deere website and it's a standard feature on the MX6 and MX7's.

"Rugged 540 rpm Category 4 (MX7) and Category 3 (MX5, MX6) drivelines with four-plate (MX7) and two-plate (MX5, MX6) slip clutches are provided as standard equipment. Slip clutches protect the drivetrain from overload."

So I will confirm with the dealer either way, but I don't see why this wouldn't be included on my order since it is an MX6...

The interesting thing is that while the slip clutch and chains are standerd equipment - the dealer can delete them at time of order to lower the cost...

So it is important to make sure they are included.

My MX would break a shhear pin EVERY time I start it... Have to have the slip clutch!
