Lynx snowblower anyone else own one?

I have a lynx 70 blower that I purchased new with my xr3135 last year and it doesn't throw snow far 30 feet give or take I have a 75 foot wide double driveway and have massive banks on the sides because the blower wont throw far enough anybody else have one with the same problem? Wondering if I buy another brand of blower if it will solve my issue.

I don’t know that blower specifically but that seems about right for a blower. Have you messed with PTO RPMs?

Or you may need to be aiming the blower down to get it to the edge and then blowing over the edge.....

These aren’t the blowers you see on the highway with dedicated huge diesel engines driving them.

I'm comparing it to a guy up the road who has a tractor with 5 more hp and a step up in blower quality (same brand as mine but more mid range I guess puma) his seems to blow 2 to 3 tims as far. Not sure what you mean messed pto rpms.

Disappointing for a new blower. My father sold snowblowers (Yardman walk behinds) and he and I had the same size/model, but his was one year newer. The only difference was the length of the chute before the deflector; 13" vs 20". Wow, what a difference it made in how far it could throw snow.

Rather than selling yours and buying another, consider having the straight part of the chute lengthened. Also, keep it diameter wider before contracting to the deflector. I believe it would make some difference. I am not a designer so no promises!

I purchased a used Lucknow blower for my tractor and what sold me on it was the chute. It is a bit awkward looking, but it throws well.

The rear (or any) PTO RPM is determined by engine RPM. Have you tried increasing your engine RPM a bit to see if that makes a drastic difference?

Bcb396, since you are comparing to the blower down the road, can you tell us if the diameter of the impellers of the two blowers the same. Fan tip speed is the most important factor effecting throwing distance. Most all these units are designed to operate at 540rpms. So the only way to increase fan tip speed is to increase the impeller size.

Try ed increasing engine speed made little difference my fan is 21 and the other blower is 24 I wanted to try Thay blower on my tractor but he doesn't want to be bothered with taking his off.

I think you just discovered why such a difference in throwing distance with respect to the blower down the road.

I googled the blower that you have and it appears to have an open chute, almost all the way from the base to the top. If this is the case, try closing off that open area, and you should get a lot more distance. If it works, make this modification easily removable, so if the chute plugs up, it can be cleared with minimal effort.

Just went and clamped a piece of plywood over it no better. Anyone know what effect it has by the amount of the fan that is closed off?

I was reminded of one other idea that may help. In my reading there is a modification that many have done and that is to bolt rubber flaps on the fan/impeller blades, especially if there is a gap between the blades and the housing. Just search "snowblower rubber fan blade modification" on youtube. In my case my impeller is 22" in diameter and there is only about 1/8" between the impeller and the housing so I have not added the rubber flaps. I realize that your subject line indicates you were looking for feedback from other Lynx owners, yet we non-Lynx owners keep bugging you with suggestions - sorry.

I have a Puma blower, and I don't get anywhere near 30 feet. More like 15. But it clears snow well at a reasonable speed, so I am happy with it. I think to get more distance it would need a faster impeller speed and or larger impeller. My impeller is 22". Pronovost sells a speed accelerator with a 1 to 1.4 gearing. They say it takes 45hp to use.

How much of a gap do you have between the impeller and the housing? You can add rubber strips to close the gap, and that will increase your throwing distance. There are a number of youtube videos showing the improvement.

Gap is 1/8 a the the most I use to do the rubber flaps to walk behind blowers. I'm thinking it just might be the blower design

Fan diameter does make a difference in snow throwing distance.
A few years ago I upgraded from a 64" wide Puma to a 64" wide Frontier.
Other than age, the only significant difference was the impeller diameter.
Puma 22" Frontier 24".
Some large areas of my snow blowing required re-blowing the snow again to get it out of the way.
To insure max throwing distance, it's about the only time I run my snow blower at the full 540 pto rpm.
I don't know the snow blowing distance difference in feet between the two snow blowers,
but with the 24" impeller snow blower I am not re-blowing nearly as much snow as when I had the 22" impeller snow blower.

You do not need a new snow blower. You need to keep the engine RPM speed at the 540 RPM PTO Speed.

When was the last time you changed the engine intake air filter on your B7800?????


If you purchase an impeller kit for it and use fluid film you will have no issues with it any more.

Before you do anything expensive purchase some Fluid Film in the aerosol spray can and coat the impeller housing and paddles and the chute and spout with it and then it will be ready to clear snow. You need to run the engine at the 540 RPM engine speed to enable to snow blower to work properly.

I double my throwing distance on my single stage snow throwers even with the heavy crap and the snow blower does not work as hard either.

My tractor is a ls 3135 and it is achieving 565 rpm at the pto (as checked twice now) impeller to drum clearence is .080 to .090 so it's pretty close never tried fluid film but have waxed the chute to little or no difference

All of this depends on the travel speed of the tractor in reverse as the impeller becomes flooded and any excess builds up in front of the snowcaster.
The snow becomes so heavy that is it harder to discharge from the impeller to make any headway with casting distance.
If the snow is deep it would help if you made your first pass with the snow blower elevated to skim off a portion of it and then take half cuts.

The new Toro walk behinds have a patented anti clog set up that allows the excess snow to be pushed back out and forward as the snow thrower advances and it never clogs and it still discharges all the white crap at a high rate of speed.


Try some fluid film on the chute and impeller paddles first and then decide if you want to start looking at new iron.


One brand I will suggest you look at is the smallest Meteor single stage snow thrower as it has a high speed snow blower rotor that does not clog and operates at 600 plus RPM and as long as you keep the torque up you will have plenty of power especially doing half cuts. The wings on the side weldments make it 60 inches wide
