Spent a couple of hours on a dealers M59 today and enjoyed it. Was a bit confused with the inching control until I figured out that it needed to be in gear (L-M-H) in order to inch. Then I put it in neutral to use the hoe - don't know if that was necessary but it seemed right. It inches backward at a reasonable speed but verrrry slowly forwards. I guess that's normal.

Two real questions though...First one is that the L-N-M-N-H control is hard to move. Not slick at all. Does that sound right? I thought it would be both easier and more positive. Maybe there is an adjustment - either to me or the machine..

And that backhoe thumb control is downright weird. Good leg stretching exercise.

Looking around at the metal I really like the way the loader is braced, but the 3 point arm mounts seem a little small for cat II implements. Has anyone commented on that?

Finally, the group is right - I did quickly get used to the large bucket...but I'm still considering a 4 in 1 bucket. What do you think?

inch? Do you mean creep? Haven't used it yet in any case..

THe gear shift is a bit sticky, but I imagine it'll loosen up. Not been an issue for me. I do use the clutch to shift. Why? Why not? Its there, so I thought, won't hurt.

Love the Compact Attachments 4n1 with it. I actually got both, but haven't really used the regular bucket - its my snow/mulch/bulk bucket.

Backhoe thumb control is reversed to my mind - I'm going to reverse it at the cylinder so it moves logically

Yes, I should have said "creep" instead of "inching". much faster moving away from the hoe than toward it, yes?

The sticky shifter surprised me. I had expected it to be easier. Not very positive feeling. It might break in...it's more likely that I will. Yes, I use the clutch as well. I don't really mind the position of the hydraulic BH thumb control. Certainly nobody will hit it by mistake!

I'm also considering the 4n1 bucket. Though when trying the large standard bucket in some dirt today I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to work with. I do a lot of landscape style back dragging with the bucket edge to flatten ground. This big bucket excels at that.

The variable HST response control mystifies me. I couldn't tell any difference in the way it worked.

I don't use the the clutch but move the HST pedal rocking forward and reverse, just a little, stop, then shift. If you take tension off the drivetrain the balky lever will move easier.

In auto throttle ON mode, Tractor HST response to power input seems most noticeable when you're in the H travel gear and feed in power. Delay to input ratio widens or shortens. I think this is right.

That controls the stopping speed, not the forward speed. Not sure if you knew that. Pardon the explanation if you were aware.
When that switch is at the "fast" setting, the tractor will almost throw you off the seat if you are running in high and quickly remove your foot from the HST pedal .
