I have a 94 m7030. I dont see much about them but its a nice tractor for my first one. Primary used for bush hogging and box blade stuff. My question is:

When i engage the pto cluth I notice a bit of what I call grind, sort of like change gears on the tractor when not stopped. PTo works fine. Everything seems to be ok except engaging the pto and my concerns over the lack of smooth engagement. It does have a side cluth similiar to a parking brake. Do I have to engagement the tractor cluth as well? Thanks.

That machine has the little switch with the yellow handle? If so, that lever engages a cable that activates the PTO. It also has an electric micro switch that turns on the dash light and works with the starter safety interlock.

It should not make a grinding noise. You don't need to engage the clutch. My guess is that the cable needs adjustment - there are two adjustment nuts on it. They are underneath the switch and not at all easy to get to, I'm afraid.

All of this is assuming that your machine is similar to the M6800s...
