Made a shooting range

Everyone that visits us wants to shoot...............................22s make a nice Gong Noise...............223s go right thru the steel targets and with no noise

I am officially jealous ....of all of you! My ground is pancake flat. No way to have any type of normal range.

But, i am pondering building an indoor range...handgun / rim fire only. Even thought about making it subterranean. Hmmm.

Most people have flat land............First I built the 16x8x7 open front shed with mostly PT wood, then filled it, then roofed it. I didn't have a hill to dig it in nor did I want to go underground. Another idea is to purchase a 40' shipping container, line it with the bullet proof steel, add a fan on the roof and go at it.............Every once in a while we get pretty loud so I'm thinking of putting a 55 gallon drum horizontally on a stand, line it with soundproof egg crate foam, and shooting thru it. The end of the gun barrel would be 1/2 way into the 55 gallon drum to lower the blast. Keep in mind that in the shooting direction towards the range you need no neighbors. I mostly shoot 22 so as not to agree the neighbors. Larger calibers in the winter when their windows are shut. But I'm in Maine and own all the land around me within 1/2 mile. I'm also friendly with all my neighbors. I only shoot around noon and early afternoon. I go to the local gun club range in summertime with larger caliber guns. I guess I would say that a person has to be considerate of his neighbors so as to everyone will get along. And I don't shoot every day and every week. Now a days, ammunition is really expensive and hard to find. So just blasting away is wastful
