Attached are photos of a subsoiler I made a couple years ago, and used for that purpose for the first time last week. The business end of the unit is 3/4" X 4" flat steel, and the digging tip is from ASC. I studied photos of similar units in various catalogs to get the sucking angle right. I can adjust the blade depth if necessary-see two bolts on the side. I have a nasty hardpan in my soil that restricts drainage. I set the rock shaft to draft control with my 1050 (33 hp) and the unit sucked the bottom links right down to the ground (almost). I couldn't be happier. The pipe layer I fabbed from 2 1/2" sch 80 conduit. Last fall I used it to run 200 ft of 1 1/4" water line abut one foot deep---much easier than using a shovel, and cheaper than renting an excavator. Pretty slick design.
