Mahindra 10 series vs. 30,20 and 35 series

I am confused on your statement that LS only has "simple" remotes. I am currently shopping for a tractor and am curious what differentiates simple from great remotes. I am not a hydraulics expert so any education is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I believe but very well might be wrong that the LS rear remote control valves are a simple 3 position return to center valve. What that means is that you push or pull the valve lever to get the reaction that you are looking for, let go of the lever and it returns to the closed (center) position. As in retracting or extending the hydraulic.

A more sophisticated control valve will have a float position such as what most loader valves have. That is considered a 4 position valve.

Then there are either of those same valves with detents, the detent keeps the control lever in the position that you put it in and has to be manually returned to center (the closed position).

Then to go a step further you can get those same valves with detent auto kick out function. That is you put the valve in the detent position, say for retracting the cylinder. With a std detent the rod retracts and then the motor has a load put on it and the fluid goes to bypass until you take the lever out of the detent position. If you have the auto kick out function the lever will automatically kick out of the detent position and return to the closed (center) position when the hydraulic has reached the end of it's stroke.

There are these types of valves on different makes and models and sometimes the manufacturer will give you a choice of the type of control valve that you would like to have and other times certain models come with a specific type and you have no choice. :(

Nothing wrong with any of the types of controls, just that some have a few more options than others. I hope that this helps some. ;)

That's about as good of explanation of controls as you can get. Well done. I have heard people say alot more and transfer alot less knowledge.

Brian,

Thanks for the explanation, it is very thorough and helpful.

I can see the benefits of the valve with the float and the 4th example with float and auto kick-out function but i am not sure i would be happy with your third example where the detent can lock into position and cause the bypass valve to take the brunt if you forget to pull it out of detent position. Maybe my understanding of the bypass valve is wrong but i thought it was more of a overpressure safety valve that should normally only function if something goes wrong. Is that correct?

Thanks again for your time and detailed response.

Dave, the valve with the detent that HAS to be manually kicked out is really for running fluid to a back hoe or a log splitter. Everything has an intended purpose. ;)

Or, perhaps, to an implement with a hydraulic motor (e.g. hydraulic post hole digger).

I would rather not have that one. ... A bungee on the lever of an auto kick detent type achieves this while preserving full functional flexibility. - - I will append to Brians excellent description of remotes that the best of them, those with float and auto kick back detents, are the ones included on the 7520. Im not sure how this varies across other models in the Mahindra line or other makers, but they are a significant positive value factor with any tractor.

Larry, I agree, we have the best of the selection on our 7520s. My 3215 OEM remote has the float position with it. I believe that the 10 series tractors only have the simple 3 position valves, but that may have changed over the years, I'm not sure. I know that the different models do not all come with the same type & quality of valves. :(
