Comparison Mahindra 2538 or Kubota 3901 anyone have experience with both.

No offense taken, Snowback. Mahindra was never a consideration for me simply because there are no dealers nearby. Again just sharing a perception. I went back and looked and it seems Dave was correct that most were dealer issues more than manufacturer issues.

I'd be willing to bet that 99+% of new tractor owners are very happy with their machine.

I always find these comparison videos useful as long as you can peel out the inherent biases...

Here is a video of the Kubota 3901 compared to the JD 3038 and Branson 3520h

And then here is the Mahindra 2538 vs the JD 3038E - You would have to splice the two sets of points together to get a 2538 vs 3901, but maybe there is some insight here.

I agree. We sell a lot of the Mahindra Max 26XL and the 1526. Both were previous 28HP units, now under 26 for EPA reasons. It sure doesn't hurt that they are also made in Japan by Mitsubishi.

You just hit on one of my pet peeves. A Kubota is a Kubota is a Kubota. But in this case a Mahindra is a Mitsubishi... That's it, NOTHING IMPLIED, that is one of my big reasons to stay with Kubota.

I am going to go tomorrow and look at these two tractors and get a price on a package deal on both. If not for the DPF on the Kubota I probably wouldn't even look at the Mahindra but the DPF kinda scares me for years down the road.

I think they're both good tractors. I purchased the L3901 but tried to purchase the 2538 first. In my case the Mahindra dealer simply didn't return my call or fax the final deal sheet to me as requested. I waited a week for them and ended up driving 3 miles down the road to Kubota and south the L3901. I decided that if the Mahindra dealer was this non responsive with live buyer on the line how would they be if I had an issue with my tractor after purchase.

The dealer made the decision for me. It's been a month or two now (and 32+ hours on the L3901) and I'm pleased with my purchase.

So the DPF didn't worry you enough to put up with a bad experience at another dealer.

I drive a diesel pickup and already have to put up with the DPF and now DEF. I've had two regens now in ~32 hours, 2nd one today. Just have to bump the throttle and keep on going. The Mahindra dealer tried to sell a lot of FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about the DPF, but I wasn't buying. I was more concerned that Kubota may do something besides DPF in the future any my tractor lose value, but I'm not planning on selling/trading anyway.

I thought about that also. If they did away with DPF in the next year or two you would not be able to give away one that has it.

That is a strong point for Kubota. Branson is another manufacturer that builds pretty much everything they sell, as does Yanmar. John Deere and Mahindra both source tractors from other manufacturers.

Mahindra is now a 1/3rd owner in Mitsubishi Ag. Machinery. That happened in the last couple of years. I like that, it tells me that we will not one day be faced with a situation where we no longer have the little Mitsu's in the line-up. M&M and MAM are in this together.
