So i guess the cheapest route would be to save up enough to just pay cash and buy the 2538.

:thumbsup:

This is a really hard thing to do in today's consumeristic environment that teaches us from birth to spend every penny we make every month...

If a guy can delay gratification for a few years out in the workforce, and only borrow money for perhaps a home or land, then they will find a debt free, cash only lifestyle to be the way to go for peace of mind and the best prices when it comes time to purchase cars, trucks and tractors. Sure we don't have the fanciest TVs, phones, or clothes, and my "new" Truck is six years old, but I sleep like a baby and enjoy stashing any "discretionary" dollars in the bank so I can buy another implement someday. :D

Dad grew up during WWII. I learned from him to "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!" Once of the best lessons ever learned.

Dave that is basically what the dealer told me,he said 90% of the time the standard rate comes out cheaper especially if you are financing 60 months or less. So i guess the cheapest route would be to save up enough to just pay cash and buy the 2538.

There is some middle ground. Put down a decent down payment against the loan and finance the balance at standard rate. By doing so you get all of the cash discounts. The work diligently to pay off the tractor a little early. Historically, 5% is pretty cheap money. If we go into an inflationary period...we will wish for such cheap money.

Funny thing I've always lived within my means too. My first wife used to bug me about being so tight then later on when she worked for a finance company she thanked me after seeing how deep some people got. My wife now started out pretty much the same way. I told her that ever who it was that she envied didn't really own anything only their bank does, plus the bank owns their soul into the bargain. Sure enough a bump came along, his job went south along with hers and suddenly they had no car, no airplane and no house, only the clothes on their backs. She never called me cheap again. Oh yeah I bought my tractor with cash or rather a check and I own my home free and clear because I paid for it with a check too. Now if only I could get the gubberments mits outta my pocket, I'd be in decent shape.

You are most right about that, sir! 5% was a steal of a deal on a car loan not too long ago.

Amen to that!

Amen to that!

I used to get a kick out of the excuses people used to be deep in debt. Remember when you could write consumer credit off of your taxes? They'd open their wallets and a bazillion credit cards would come flopping out and they'd say it's tax deductable. I'd say, yeah off the top, not the bottom, you moron. They were so far behind the eight ball, they could never get out from under all that debt. I simply can't imagine living life that way and don't know how others do. Sadly irresponsibility is epidemic in this country today and our government and so called leaders are leading the way.
I surely can't see kids loading themselves up with student loans right off the bat to get some worthless BA degree in basket weaving. Want to go to college and can't afford it? Fine then join the military and go on the GI bill when you get out. Maybe they'll even decide to get a more worthwhile BS degree and do something useful in their life. When you earn something you appreciate that much more.

Called my dealer today and got a price for adding a couple more implements. All the implements for the Mahindra are with Mahindra implements which the dealer said was made by Kodiak, the Kubota is with Landpride. Not sure if one is better than the other. And as Dave had stated in a previous post this caused the better deal at the Mahindra dealer to be the 0% price on the tractor. So both of these prices are with 0% financing for 60 months. So the price I have now is with tax included only thing not included is Insurance. Kubota Dealer said it was approx $34 a month and I didn't ask the Mahindra dealer but I would think it would be about the same I really wish there was a couple thousand dollars difference in the price so the decision would be a lot easier. For some reason I always thought Mahindra's were cheaper. Maybe they use to be.

FEL on both
20' Trailer with brakes on rear axle.
5' MD Cutter
5' Tiller
5' Box Blade
5' Disk (tube not angle)

Mahindra = $31,262 - 0% 60 months 521.03

Kubota = $30,940 - 0% 60 months 515.66

Looks like you have a tough call. The Kubota boys come out in force with their pom poms whenever they see the word kubota. The Kubota is a fine tractor. The Mahindra is a fine tractor. The Kubota may hold it's value longer but unless purchasing for resale that is only a small bonus point. I like my 2538 a lot. It does spec out better but that is on paper. Deep down you know which one you want and should go with that one no matter what anyone thinks. You are the one paying for it.

Why are you getting a disk & a tiller? They basically do the same thing. A tiller is more maneuverable & easy to use though. I suggest you forget about the disk as it really won't buy you much over a tiller.

Land Pride is top quality gear, some is commercial grade. I know nothing about Kodiak though.

The disk will be used mainly to disk greenfields sometimes places we put them can be rocky or have stumps and such. Everybody I know uses a disk for such places so you tear up your tiller. And the disk is faster in those applications because you don't need such a fine seed bed.
