Tractor
Mahindra 2555
Still Fighting. this started about a month ago. I was cutting grass and the tractor started a hard knock. Then it would not start. Finally got it to where now it will start. But when it gets warm the engine will not even turn over. Seems to be very tight. Now it is blowing so much white smoke I cannot even see around it. I wish I could post a video here but it is not allowed.
I checked compression and I am getting around 380 psi on all 3 cylinders. I did a leak down test on all three and I am getting only about 10 to 15 percent on leak down. All three have air coming back thru the crankcase. I am assuming around the rings on the pistons. I talked to a local Mahindra dealer, and they would not tell me very much, but they did comment that they thought it was electrical problems. I would have to bring the tractor to them and let them test on the computer. I feel like it is getting way too much fuel, but I have no way of knowing.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Also on a seperate note. I have been told that the Garuda II software is what is used to read codes. Can anyone confirm this. You cannot purchase here in the states, but it can be purchased in India for around $550. I am not sure if buying this would be a good idea. But for that cost, compared to two hours at the dealer would be about the same.

I just don’t know how to advise you. This forum has some excellent mechanics on here as I have read their posts. Let’s give them some time to come in here you might not need the dealer or the code reader.

I wanted to give an update on my tractor. I just finished pulling my exhaust manifold. Started the tractor for only about 3 seconds. The smoke is coming from number 3 cylinder. I am going to swap injectors and see if the smoke follows. I hope this is the case. If not there is something else happening.

Well it looks like there is something inside the engine. Maybe valves pistons. I hate to even think about it.

Pull the head you can see if the piston is loose or piston wall is
scored. Have you checked the radiator to see if its full?
You could just have a blown head gasket this I would check
when you pull the head.

I did compression and leak down test on all three cylinders. Definitely not getting leakage there the water system. It has been the same level since i started working on the tractor. What I find crazy. If I bring the cylinder up to top dead center and do a leak down test. I get about 10% leakage. If go ahead and apply more pressure to the cylinder it shows the piston down. If rings or the piston were bad I don't think it would show the piston down so quick. But I may be wrong again for the millionth time. What I find crazy is the motor will start just fine. Blow a lot of smoke, but it will not go above a low idle with the accelerator.

On a side note, I was told by a Mahindra mechanic that you can swap the injectors, because the ECU knows which injector is supposed to be there and it loses it mind. Sounds a little crazy to me. AGAIN who knows. But he also stated that he feels very strongly it is just electrical problems. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and bring it there for $250 an hour and put it on the computer.

If you raise the rpm's nothing happens no higher rpm?
You could have a linkage problem have you checked
them? I'm not a diesel mech but done a lot work on
cars/trucks many years ago quit when all this fancy
stuff came out. There are people on here that know
a lot more than me so perhaps some one will help.
If you have issues with your Mahindra tractor and it feels like it’s experiencing a loss of power or stamina, then checking various fuel system components is a good place to start the troubleshooting process

Hope you get some help here

lots of hard work to be guessing. I would find a more technical way of troubleshooting. You could completely disembodie the engine and still have a small impediment causing this.

The injector has a serial number (basically a calibration code) that gets assigned to the cylinder it's installed in on electrically governed tractors.

Injector two might need to be held open a touch longer/ shorter to deliver the same amount of fuel as injector 1.

So by swapping, cylinder 1 might be getting more fuel than desired and cylinder 2 could be getting less fuel now.
