The 3215 I use clicks when I turn the ignition key. On the third try it usually starts. Should I try to replace the solenoid or just live with the problem. Thanks, Mahindra Guy

I am assuming you are giving time for the glow plugs to reach temp, before starting? I also have a 3215 and it clicks as the glow plugs are warming.

If the glow plugs are energized they draw a lot of power from the battery. If you try to crank it over before the plugs shut off the battery may not be up to the task. How old is the battery?
Or it could be a ground connection problem.

Thank you for you reply, I will wait longer to try and start the machine, but will also clean all the connections from the battery. Where can I get a service manual for 3215? Mahindra guy

Thank you for your reply. The battery is new, but believe after much research that the battery connections and ground may be slightly corroded. I have an volt meter and will check for voltage drop at the starter. Do you know a web sit that I can get a shop manual for the tractor?:)

I lucked out getting parts and service manuals for mine from another TBN member who new a dealer that went out of business several years ago. I think he said all the manuals that dealer had are gone. Unless you can find one on Ebay or CL you'll have to order it from your dealer if they are still available. Or ask one of the dealers on this site via a private message.

Is this a new to you tractor or have you had it a while?
Mine clicks when the key is turned on but the only noise I hear is the fuel pump clicking. Is your clicking coming from the pump or the starter when you turn the key?
The glow plug light on the dash stays lit for about 10 seconds. When it goes off then I can turn the key to start.

The 3215 is a 2008 and the clicking was caused loose solenoid connections. The problem is evidently solved. Thank you all. Happy New Year:cool2:

I have a 2012 3016 that does the same thing occasionally if you mean by "clicking" that sound you get when you turn the key and get what sounds like a vibrato set of electrical snaps of a weak battery. I'll have to check my starter solenoid.

I'd check the battery connections, but the small wires from the ignition switch were loose on my 3215. Other post's recommend letting the glow plugs warm up longer, but you most likely know that already. The sound is the solenoid trying to engage, but fails to connect. Happy new year.

About what does a 3016 cost these days?

These days i'm not sure. I paid 17K for mine otd -loaded tires this past Oct. (2012 left over…I guess few people want a geared tractor) I heard they may be 2 grand more now a days.

Thank for you reply. I'm thinking in buying a geared tractor with a neighbor with a backhoe and bucket, but don't know the cost yet. Internet not very good at finding out prices for the new Mahrindra tractor. I haven't talked with a dealer yet and it just might be a dream.

Prices for new tractors (I think 2013 and later) have increased because of a new federal law on emissions (thank you for protecting us from ourselves governess....).

When I bought my 3016, the dealer said 2012 inventories were beefed up ahead of the new regulations/costs.

I would say a person should expect to pay $3-$4K for a new FEL and between $15-20K for a compact tractor.

If asked, I would offer these "pieces" of advice for any buyer:

1. Bring a binder with blank tables with you when you visit a dealer so you can compare all the pricing options as there are four or five (or more) ways to pay for what you buy; it appears like a rubix cube.

2. Figure out which tractor you need and find a way to get the next-size bigger.

3. Confirm the date of manufacture (DOM) before you buy.

4. Make sure your prospective tractor hasn't been the one everyone test-drives.

5. Take the leap of faith; I cannot see how a dealer would risk gouging anyone since there are too many ways to be caught these days and manufacturer supervision/guidelines (aka corporate sincerity) may land them in hot water. Corporate was watching what my dealer charged me, no way to hide it from them unless I bought used and paid cash.
