Mahindra 4110 or Kubota L4400

   / Mahindra 4110 or Kubota L4400 #11
I knew my 4110 wasn't actually built by Mahindra, but it does have their name on it, and with that, their reputation.

I am sure the company is concerned about their reputation, however do you think TYM cares? Once its not profitable for them to continue parts support they are the ones that choose to pull the plug, not Mahindra. The statement to avoid contract built tractors is dead on. We've had this issue with several brands (cub, case, etc) who have done some of this.

Messick,

I see some blue in the background of your picture. What kind of reputation does New Holland have for parts availability, reliability, etc. How do they rate compared to Kubota?

It didn't take long for me to make the assumption that Kubota sales must have a higher commission.

I was curious about what is meant by this, was the salesperson trying to push the Kubotas?

How much does the 4110 cost compared to the 4400?

Interested in how it compares price wise, as well as against TYM 400 which is very close.

Getting parts down the road is a definite consideration. There are so many out there though I can't imagine getting parts would be impossible. There is no doubt in my mind that Kubota is a great tractor. My worry is that orange gets so much hipe that what am I really paying for? A name? The Mahindra (or whatever it is) is heavier and has a more practical transmission for crawling and hauling. What is the deal with the draft control?

Draft control is used for plowing. "Draft" is the drag produced by the plow in the ground. Draft contol is set to regulate around a given level of draft. If the plow enters softer ground or if the plow rises when the front wheels drop into a furrow, the 3pt lowers the plow until the draft increases to the set point. If the plow hits harder ground, the 3pt raises the plow and transfers the weight of the plow to the rear wheels until the draft decreases to the set point as the plow returns to the desired depth.

To set the draft control level, with the tractor stationary, you lower the plow with the position control until the plow rests on the ground and then you push the position control lever to the full down position. Then you move forward and watch the plow dig in. When the plow reaches the desired depth you move the draft contol lever to the up position until the plow just starts to move upward. Usually there's an adjustable stop that you can clamp onto the draft quadrant so you can return the draft lever to the same position when you start each new furrow. Once the draft level is set, you use the position control to lower the plow at the start of a furrow and to raise the plow at the end of a furrow.

BTW: my new tractor is a Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto, 2WD) with the ML250 FEL (6-ft wide bucket). It's a big, heavy brute (5400 lb without filled tires and minus the FEL).

We can do a bit better with New Holland for parts, but thats because one of their larger warehouses is 20 minutes from us. I'd probably give New Holland an edge, but a small one. For 95% of whats needed both companies are very good. Neither are perfect, no one is.

I'd give Kubota the edge for reliability. Its a simple fact that Kubota is the only tractor company building their own tractors, loaders, backhoes, mowers, etc all in house. They have better control over the overall quality. We do less warrenty claims for Kubota's and it seems that things are more consistantly done right the first time.

We don't really push people to one brand or another for these reasons. Its better to find what fits the customer best.

I can see some of the validity in your point. Lets hope I don't have to deal with this in the future. Like you said in a earier post, all have good points and bad.

I still think its vital to make your purchase on what you are comfortable with and how it fits your hand. What works well for others on here might not work well you you.:)

Later,
Matt

The salesman was definitely pushing the Kubota on me before he even asked what I would be using it for. I offered up my intentions for use and I stated that it seemed like heavier and slower (4110) was better for my application. He then told me that the 4400 is wider with a lower center of gravity which makes it more stable. When I got home and compared spec sheets and the 4110 is actually wider. That being said I think I will go with the Kubota anyway based on their reputation and parts availability. The salesman probably knew in the long run this would be a better choice but didn't convey it well??? The L4400 was identical in price to the 4110. I can't remember the exact number but it was just over $22 with FEL included on both.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Kubota it is...

My wife and I are considering the purchase of a new tractor this fall. After some research on line I went to a local dealer that sells Deere, Kubota, and Mahindra to ask some questions. It didn't take long for me to make the assumption that Kubota sales must have a higher commission. Anyway, without looking at New Holland I am debating between the Mahindra 4110 or Kubota L4400. I will be using the tractor for grading my long, hard packed gravel driveway, winching wood (I'll start a new thread sometime for Farmi/Fransguard questions), moving around snow, and generally just moving dirt. Most of my property has steep grades but logging roads are all in. Any recommendations between the L4400 or 4110? I like the 12x12 of the 4110 and the draft control. From the spec sheets it also appears that the 4110 is wider (better stability). I don't think the salesman was comparing apples to apples except for the bottom line.
I was looking at the mahindra 4110,Kubota 4240 & Kioti Dk40se.I ended up buying the Kioti.Drive them all and do some research.coobie

So I thought I had decided on the Kubota but I have been research Kioti. I think I'll go try out a Kioti next weekend...Looks like it has some of the key features I am looking for...Thanks.
