Mahindra: Nothing but problems

Hi Brandi

Barn is not heated. No heat strip installed, which would be useless because once the tractor is out in the cold the PsT binds up again.
They only have plug in stations out west in the prairies. And even then its a block heater, so it wouldn't do any good for the PST cable. Even if the tractor is left idling it will freeze up.

If I trade the tractor it won't be for another Mahindra. Its a Mahindra problem as far as I am concerned due to poor design. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem. So how could it be my problem, any more than bad ignition problems with GMC?

The cable is one piece as far as I can tell, and yes its likely water in the cable, and I understand how it gets in there, either through washing, or using the tractor in rain. Water can easily get into the shroud around the steering wheel/column. Another gentleman on this forum suggested anti seize lubricant, but I am not certain there is any room to get it into the cable.

Still waiting for the dealer to come and pick it up. :(

Best,

If the cable has no room for greasing inside the housing, then that's a bad design for such an important function. This is what we use on the ground shift cable on our Boeings. MOLYKOTE® 33 EXTREME LOW TEMP. BEARING GREASE, MEDIUM

Back when I worked on DC-9s, we had to remove the power cables (throttle) out of the housing and hand lube them. This was about a 10-12 foot long cable, running from the control quadrant in the baggage compartment sidewall, out through the engine pylon to the fuel controller.

hugs, Brandi

Okay so the dealer has picked up the unit this a.m. I took a look at the linkage from the underside the cable comes down from the lever just off vertical. Down below the cable turns back up creating a -j- where it links to the transmission, this is definitely a low spot that water collects.

While I was warming up the tractor I noted a leak at the hydraulic steering ram. Another item to be repaired while at the dealers.

Thanks for the replies, appreciated.

Raymond,
Good luck with your dealer and the tractor. It really is a Beast of a tractor.

I ran into the same problem with my 4035.
I used a shift boot that is used in a lower unit on a boat it fit like it was supposed to be there.I fitted it over the cable onto the casing and the other end on the cable where the fitting mounts to the shifter and like wise at the other end. The shift boot is always under water on the boat so why not use it for a simple cable repair on a tractor. This is a simple fix and not cost effective. Hopefully the manufacturer can come up with the same solution as I did. This is the only thing that has gone wrong with my tractor hopefully yours can be resolved the same way. Good luck. Brian

I have read all this and still am happy I bought Mahindra. I doubt they'll sue.

No, Like me you bought a Mitsubishi, sold by Mahindra.

Not to be a racist but I can't buy a engineered piece of equipment made in a country that still allows their people to ride on the top and sides of trains and busses. And it doesn't stop there!

Just my 2 cents...

And ignorance is bliss --

Mahindra USA

In 1994, the company entered the American market as Mahindra USA, and in the few years since, its tractors are being sold and serviced by hundreds of tractor dealers throughout the country. Mahindra USA, a subsidiary of Mahindra Tractors, is responsible for sales in the North American continent. Mahindra has three assembly plants in the US. One assembly plant is at its North American headquarters in Houston, Texas, another in Red Bluff, California and the latest assembly and distribution center moved from Calhoun, Georgia to Chattanooga, Tennessee at the end of 2009. In August of 2012, Mahindra USA opened its fourth assembly and distribution center in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

In addition to building their own tractors, Mahindra also sources tractors from other manufacturers. For the USA market, Mahindra has bought tractors from Mitsubishi and Tong Yang Moolsan to cover selected product ranges.[8]
