Maintenance on an 851 Powermaster

   / Maintenance on an 851 Powermaster #31
the shift plungers on a 5 speed are nothing more than slot headed caps with seal, a spring, and a short cylindrical slug with an oval/rounded head.

Usual wear is in the 3/r plunger, and 4/5 almost never sees use for field work, so many times, people pop the 'new' plunger out of 4/5 and swap it to 3/r, and swap the worn one to 4/5.

You can still get them from NH.

PS.. worn plungers or weak springs are only part ( sometimes none ) of a jump out of gear problem. sometimes it is just worn out tranny and bearings, and when you decelerate a hair, it tries to jump out.
