Major Truck Trouble, What Would You Do????

Hey Jim,
I've thought about that, but now I'm invested in the parts which have gone into the existing axle... Hopefully nothing else breaks for awhile!!!!

Look at it logically. I put a $2500 tranny in my '95 C2500 Chevy w/ 6.5 turbo diesel. People said "You're Crazy! sell it!" Well, the truck is paid for and has been for a while. $2500 is less than 5 payments on a new truck that I would be paying interest on and have to run full coverage insurance. Also, what would I rather have longhorn cattle rubbing up against in the pasture, my paid-for truck w/ its already numerous "character marks" or something I was looking at throwing $500+ at every month?
Add up the costs, then look at what you will have versus what you could get by going sell/trade buy new route. I bet the used truck still comes out on top. I am not Dodge fan but I love a Cummins motor.

Hi Art,

If you were a bit closer I could have taken a look at it. Hope it all turns out well in the end. It's definetly cheaper to fix your truck than to buy a new one. as for that shop. I would not visit there again. They make a thread chasing tool to straighten out threads on axle housings as long as they are not totally ruined. I wonder if this shop knows about that tool. What you do is split the old nut off the shaft and rethread it with this chasing tool.

Yes, Jim I wondered about a re-threading tool. I've done that on smaller bolts and stuff... Thanks for the offer too. And, believe me, I won't go to that garage again, and that's probably a good thing for all parties ! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
