Joe:

I don't worry too much about stopping, heck, I don't think I have ever used the brakes on the tractor. I don't go fast and the wagons get pulled by the pickup. Come to think of it, I should see if they work. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Daryl,
Glad that you enjoyed in pics.
This is way how we make barns here. Father and me made it in 1981-87, step by step. Pole barns are unknown.
OK, we have wooden barns, but mainly old, with brick basement, oak poles and rebar, and pine or beech boards for sides, or brick wall inbetween wooden parts.
I haven't any closest picture of old barn, just this neighbours one (to make your wife more jealous /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
Pic was made last fall during corn silage making.

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Fuel is very expensive here. Sulpher less diesel is about 1.1$ per liter, about 4$ gal. Ag diesel is half price, but we won't use it, as it is bad quality (saving on fuel, spending on pump rebuilt - where is save /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif)
We don't raise cattle any more. Hay bales and corn grain are for sale. Usual price is 2-3$ per bale, depends on year and yield.

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Daryl,

From your pics it does look fairly flat there. Here in NW New Jersey there have been many accidents over the years do to our hills.

And I sure agree with you on the internet and seeing ZJ's pictures!!

As Cliff said it is a very interesting thread.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifThanks Fellas.

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Yes that would be list price but that's right for list Kyle. I know 5030 is different but I have never even used the twine on our balers. We put up thousands of bales every year and they are all stored outside. The savings in not wasting hay by wrapping bales pays for the option in less than a year. Even one good rain on a twine bale will ruin the top 3" of your hay. That is where the bulk of your hay is. Give it four or five good rains and you're down to bad hay 6" down.

Re: Mak\'in Hay with John Day

Yea not only that but there are no hills in those pictures. There's no way you could turn or stop that load on hills much less go up the hill. If you're on perfectly flat ground like that it doesn't take much but put any kind of hills into the equation and it's a whole different ballgame.

Thanks for the photos ZJ_HR.
Nice to see how others do things.
A/C Cab is a luxury here too, believe me! I wish I had it...Kyle

Richard:

The saying here is that "the only hills in Michigan are the off ramps on the freeways".

Actually, it is hilly in some parts of the state. Not around here though. You are right, John Day's TC would never pull a wagon and a bailer on a hill and going down would have an extreme pucker factor.
