That's a heck of a lot of power in S-band. Depending on distance and duty cycle, you were likely shooting blanks for awhile, and may have suffered some liver damage. Testes and liver are almost always the first to cook due to HERF exposure.
I was outside the box my wallet was inside

Loto was in use when I was at risk but I forgot my wallet

Here's a follow-up. I moved the conduit and only needed to add 12" to it's length, there's enough loop in the wires at each end that I should be able to reuse the wire without splicing it. It will be a few days before I pull the wire back into the conduit because of all the mud. (I don't work in the mud, or rain, or cold, or ... anymore if I can help it. BTDT) Once it dries out some it should be easy enough to replace it.

Legal or not, there is a simple fix I have used many times and it is safe!

First, get a length of heat shrink that is appropriately sized to fit over the cable
Then strip a couple of cm of shielding from each of the original and the extension cables
Solder the two together - make sure the solder joint is as perfect as you can get it, meaning all around and through both sections - not just on the surface
Slide the heat shrink over the joint, making sure it covers the joint completely, then apply heat to shrink it
Finally, just for security reasons, put the joined section into a good quality plastic box and screw on the box lid. (These boxes are readily available from most good hardware stores or any electrical supply shop)

Hope this helps

In Texas, splicing electrical wires in a home requires connections to be made within a junction box that complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), ensuring safety and preventing fire hazards

True... in a building. But for buried branch circuits, such as well casings, underground splice kits may be used without a box. All splices must be covered with an insulation equivalent to that of the conductors, or with an identified insulating device, but the pre-fabricated kits already have this covered.

The most popular type are a crimp barrel with separate clear gel-filled heat-shrink tubing. And don't burn the heat-shrink tubing with a torch or lighter, do it right with a heat gun or high-power hair dryer. Also, make sure the wire insulation to which that heat shrink will be glueing itself to on each end of the splice is clean and dry, or it won't work.
