I guess it's a terminology thing..I wanted the grapple to completely close on the bottom edge of the bucket/toothbar...no gaps...with the cylinder at full stroke.I have seen a couple here with a gap between the bucket and bottom of the thumb...didn't want that.
So OVERBITE IT IS....works well for me

What if you put a tooth bar (or even some angle iron) on the tip of the grapple the same width as the bucket?

What if you put a tooth bar (or even some angle iron) on the tip of the grapple the same width as the bucket?

You could use U bolts to clamp a couple if just about any 4 or 5 foot metal bars, pipes or even 2x4s to the top grapple in order to better hold loose brush or fire wood in a bucket grapple. I'd say though that most people just don't find it necessary for brush as it is so tangled and "sticky" that even a narrow upper grapple can hold quite a large load.
