Male Square Head Pipe Plug with starting to round off - What to do?

I grew up in Bryn Mayr/Rosemont area west of Philly. The hardware store, one of two, Had a huge wooden statue of a horse out in front. As a kid, it was a really cool experience to go with my Dad and get to play around the horse. It stood maybe 8-9 feet high and you could hang out under his belly. It was next to the fire station; so there was always a chance to get to see and hear a firetruck. Way cool for a little kid.

So for over 77 years I have been calling
crescent wrenches crescent wrenches and
its wrong?? DAM!!!

I purchased a threading kit believe I can put
threads on a 2 inch bolt. Just couldn't see
taking the time to drive to town 30 miles round
trip and paying $50 or more to get a bolt threaded
I paid $80 for the brand new kit it was at a resale
shop so didn't have to pay the big store price! It
has come in handy many times. I have even cut
bolts down to a smaller size, I save all my bolts
nuts etc have a big 5 gal pail that I put them in.
By the time it takes to get to town I have the bolt
ready to use.

I don't have them either but one use would justify the cost and save lots of labor and time.

If your going to weld a nut to it, why not just weld a piece of flatbar with a square hole cut in it so that it fits tight so that you don't have to worry about the nut you welded on getting rounded off?

Certainly would work. I was counting on the likelihood of OP having a nut being higher than flat stock and a way to make a square hole it........ to each their own

I've had a set of 'em for years. And I bought them for.........square headed drain plugs!

+1 on the pipe wrench for rounded ones.

I've been collecting tools for over 40 years. Bolt taps and dies from 1/4" to 1", pipe hand threaders 1/4" to 2", wrenches up to 2" and a 3/4" drive socket set. I have more bolts than I'll ever use in this lifetime, (with nary a nut that will fit ANY of the afore mentioned bolts, buckets of them). I live 60 miles round trip from the nearest hardware store, that usually doesn't have what I need anyways.... The tools are handy to have around, but sometimes a hot wrench works the best to remove things (can't be too tight if it becomes a molten liquid), and heating things up, and melting a wax candle on the bolt or pipe joint works well too. Then I go buy what I need new anyways, sometimes it can save time (the next time I work on it)
