You know what I miss most about cars and trucks? Bench seats on date night! Nothing, and I mean nothing, brings me a smile more than cruising a country road at night with my arm around my wife's shoulder, radio on, heading to nowhere in particular....

Bench seats and date nights.......responsible for a measurable amount of the next generation....:laughing:

One more thing the younger generation will never realize what they missed.......

Heading to nowhere in particular was (is) often the very best destination.........even though we may have had an idea precisely where we were heading......

A couple times a year, after a sporting event or something similar in the evening, I'll take the wife and kids and say "Let's go for a drive." We'll end up 50-60 miles away in some little town, stop at a DQ or a gas station for some ice cream or beverages, then head home. Just enjoying the evening, the breeze, the lightning bugs, etc.... those memories stick with the kids more than anything else... time alone with the family doing nothing in particular.

ps, had to drive the wife's E350 to a school function this am, and did a reach test. no way this 5'6" can reach the passanger door, with the arm rest gone, and me strapped in, I can reach the edge of the seat if i really really stretch and kinda rake at the seat with my hands.. but i'm still about 6" shy of the catch and much more for the unlock buttons, window controls, or the lil manual unlock tab. that vehicle has no central console ( just the doghouse.. and a small one at that ).. so I have more reach in that one than my other trucks.

so a pseudo scientific test anyway.

In the old days, vnyl covered bench seats and a quick, sharp right hand turn was a traditional way of getting your date to slide up next to you all the while letting her maintain the illusion of not being too eager to snuggle up to you.

I'm barely 6' but I've got a 76" reach... picture your basic ape.:laughing:

My first car was a '70 Nova with bench seats and three on the tree!! :thumbsup:

I knew a guy in the 60's who had a car (Rambler?) with fully-reclining front bench seat. That's a pretty useful feature for a high-schooler or college guy?
