Man shot and killed by juveniles while bush hogging

With all the TV shows that are on and they see what people do, they definitely knew exactly what they were doing. In this case and others age should't matter and they should serve life without parole.
On TV shows the guy gets up and walks away as soon as the film stops rolling. They see him again on the next show.

I'm not buying the " they didn't know about death" line. That's a ridiculous trend in the no accountability crap we're experiencing in this country.
They had to know he was there, thanks to the noisy tractor. They knew what they were shooting at.

The problem is to much codling. If I had done something like that I would beg them to put me in jail. That would be much better than facing my Dad. I was shooting by myself at that age but I knew what I could and could not point that gun at. And trust me, you obeyed my Dad.

When I grew up my father's single shot 16 gauge was always in his truck window or standing in a corner, for his continuing battle with woodchucks. Yet we knew better than to touch it... it's just the way that we were raised.
If my mother caught one of us pointing our toy gun at somebody we would lose it, permanently. Some say that was too strict, but it's how I learned not to point a gun at anybody.

Wow….just a guy out trying to make a few bucks goes home in a body bag. I do agree that most kids of that age do not realize the finality of death.
You look at the shootings in the big cities and most of those folks DO realize the finality of death.
There’s a large open space in a community where we farm some hay and the rest (wet or steep) is cut with my farm tractor and 15’ bush hog.
I was told by the HOA President there is a resident in the community who is bizarrely violent with anyone who cuts or farms the fields and pointed a gun at the previous mowing contractor years ago. Police were called and he was cited.
Still makes me want to carry when working in that community.
I agree with carrying, but it wouldn't help against someone shooting you in the back from a distance. From the news story, it looked like it took them multiple shots before they hit him. With all the noise of the tractor and bush hog, he probably couldn't even hear a 22 firing behind him.

I don't think so, not at that age. It is a tragedy though.

It would help with the freak that lives in the community where I actually cut right now.
He threatened the previous cutting contractor with a gun.
So carrying would possibly help, in my situation.

I guess y'alls daddies didn't teach you not to judge kids based off of a 4 paragraph news article and I'm sure nobody on the forum did something stupid as a kid they later(or instantly) regretted 🧐 it's a tragedy for all the families involved and I pray for them.

The story isn't quantity of paragraphs. It's depth of tragedy. There is now a dead body, laying somewhere on a slab, at room temperature. That person used to be a husband, property owner, and likely father and bread winner for a family. Senselessly killed-- on purpose. With a grieving widow, grieving family, likely financial catastrophe, and more.

You equate that to childhood pranks of others. So my question is this: if you were their Scout leader, would you also award them a marksmanship badge?
