I'm very much interested in the Kubota B series tractor and I have a question for B series owners. Do you think that it's possible to get a B2710 or B2910 with FEL and use it in a pole barn with the poles spaced 10 and 12 feet apart? I'd like to be able to use the tractor to move shavings from one corner and take them down to the stalls. The aisleway is 12 feet across so that should be no problem to run up and down it. At first I looked at the L3010 and liked it a lot but I think it's too big for this purpose. Also if I went with the grand L series I'd want something that could pull a 6 foot brush hog but that puts it out of my price range. I did sit on a B2910 in the showroom but I didn't get a good feel if it could do what I described above.

Grant,

I have a 2910 but I find it hard to visualize your layout and required maneuvers just from a word description of your barn. Are you moving the shavings with the FEL or a boxblade? If a FEL, you certainly wouldn't need a rear counterweight for shavings, so that would eliminate length. (Fill the tires, too.)

I know I was worried about mowing maneuverability when I moved from a BX to the 2910, but the difference was not that bad.

Why don't you just draw a scale diagram on your dealer's lot and then maneuver an actual tractor through the diagram. You could draw it in the dirt or gravel if that's what the dealer has, or you could draw it in chalk if he has pavement.

My 2910 handles a medium duty 5' brushog just fine.

Glenn,

I guess it's hard to picture but what I meant was to use the FEL to move the shavings. The barn is rectangular 36X90 with 10 feet between the posts along the 90' direction and 12' along the 36' direction. So the shavings pile sits in a corner that measures 10 feet across between posts and 12 feet deep. If you turned 180 degrees the other side has the same setup 10X12 and the posts are 12 feet across the aisleway.

That's a good suggestion about going to the dealership. Maybe I'll get some cones and see how that works. If that doesn't pan out I'll try to talk him into bringing out a tractor to test at the barn. Thanks...

To add to the suggestion, try using "cones" or buckets, or whatever setup with the spacing you require (hey maybe even old milk cartons /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

Then demo the machine configured as required between the obstacles. Squashed milk carton=damaged pole....

....or worse....squashed milk carton = damaged tractor

Yeah. That could be the least of it if you knocked down a pole, it could bring down part of the barn on top of your tractor and you.

Now that would make one fine day. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Having something with a bit of height to mark the pole locations is definitely better than chalk - it would be hard to tell whether that box-blade or FEL swinging around is passing over the top of the chalk mark or not (especially since you can only look at one end at once).

Grant- Is an onsite (your barn) demo possible? Then you'd know for sure!
