Just randomly replying... I agree an online manual would be useful. I'm think of just starting to maintain a FAQ.

Well, I just talked to Kristie Asbury at Power Trac, and they are not at all supportive of this idea. It seems too many people have gotten "bad advice" from discussion forums... She did say that they are currently in the process of doing a major upgrade to their web site, which will include both more service/support information in addition to more sales information.

When I raised the question of FAQs for example, she requested that if we accumulate FAQs that we send them to her for inclusion on their site which has a few FAQs about both Sales and Service.

I asked specifically about sharing parts or service manuals with each other and she said that they would not like that at all -- because it really takes the serial number of a machine to know exactly what components it has... They hope to soon have a site where an owner can type in the serial number and search for the appropriate manuls, but there's no firm commitment on when that capability may be available.

I'm not sure I want to go there -- if the company won't cooperate -- i.e. if I'd be liable for copyright infringement for putting any of their information on a site, then I'm not going there... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the clarification Kent,

Sure, your space, my space, your software, it's all good, I'm onboard with it. After mumbling to myself, and listening to other frustrated owners asking why there is not more detailed information in their factory manual. I think anything that will help sort out common, and not so common problems is a good thing.

I would hope this includes all models, not just the 400 series of course. I am willing to help in anyway I can, just let me know. Hopefully some of the more experienced PT'ers will comment for or against, along with their reasons why. To do this we would need to pool all of our resources. Doing a search on a topic is fine, but it sure would be nice, to have quick reference on information when needed, all in one place.

Well nice try Kent, guess that kills that idea. For now, back to the old search for a topic. One thing I do know, without this forum I would have never bought my PT with no dealer support. While I am on my soap box here, I for one want to give Jack a big hand for all of his support. Ok.. I'm done now, as you were.

Their reply does not surprise me. Several years ago someone from Power Trac asked if they could link to my web page and point people over there to look at it. I told them sure, but I post the good and the bad about the machine. My likes and dislikes, etc... never heard from them again. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sharing copyrighted material person to person is one thing... but posting it on the internet for the whole world to see could be a sticky subject. I could see where they would want the control over it. But really, do they have some top secret owner's manual that is so secret that they don't share even with the customers? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Oh, well... nature of the beast.
