B2910
I bought a used B2910 with L402 today but no manuals were included. Is there a site where I can buy the manuals on line (make a payment then download the manuals)?

I hate to admit that I did such a thing being a rank novice - but I did. Figured I could figure anything out after spending a few days rummaging through the discussions on this site. Don't even have a good sense about how to set up the 3 pt hitch system.

Maybe there's a "tractors 101" site that can get me going without jeopardizing my loved ones?

Thanks -

Hi,

First of all, you should have received operator's manuals. Get them from your dealer at no charge. This is a standard item, included with the tractor.

Maintenance manuals...guess you will have to pay for that.

Parts manual...you can download one from tractosmart.com...hope I got that right...it is the same parts manual that your dealer will charge you for...so get it for free from tractorsmart....

There is not excuse for your dealer not supplying you with manuals for the tractor and loader. Mine did without asking.

I have a B2910, La402 Loader and backhoe. Have operator's manuals for all this at no charge...

Now if you bought your tractor used...well not sure about that...

Hope this helps...

Gee, Gary, you must be old. No one under 40 reads manuals--or reads, period--these days. Just try all the stuff out, and when you screw up, screw up the courage to ask dumb questions here. Just like the rest of us do.

Actually, having the 2910 and 402 loader myself, I highly recommend getting the manuals. There are some tricky things underneath that tractor--weird pins and clips and holes. After taking my loader off dozens of times over the past three years, I still can't remember the sequence of maneuvers without looking at the manual. That's what happens after age 50--you love to read but can't remember a darn thing.

By the way, congrats on getting a great tractor!

Yea, well I am pretty ancient all right (57). Old enough to remember, in the distant past, my father-in-law farming with a John Deere B tractor. Always complaining about spending more time fixin' than farmin'. Wasn't necessarily the "B" that he was fixin though - lotsa stuff can break down even on a small farm.

I bought the 2910 from a private party. He needs something a little smaller (wheel spacing on the 2910 is wider than the spacing between the xmas trees he's growing). The tractor has 248 hours on it. Paid 13K for it with L402 and 4 ft rotary cutter. Every things looks to be in good shape other than some dings here and there. I was looking at the B7500 but decided to go with the used 2910 for the same price as the new 7500 (at least the local prices here in Oregon).

So far (after 5 hours of ownership) I like it a lot. My wife thinks its the wrong color though.

Now I'l looking for a tiller and Box Blade. Thinking a 5 ft bb but I know there's some debate here about whether or not that's too big for the 2910. I'd sure like it to be wider than the tire spacing though.

I'll check on the parts list but really want the manuals asap. Maybe I can buy them from the local dealer tomorrow.

Here's a couple of stupid questions in the mean time: I can get the light switch in two of the three positions - the little circle one and the one clockwise from that. But can't get it in the position CCW of the little circle position. The button in the center doesn't seem to do anything. OK, someone embarrass me with the obvious answer!

Also, what do I need to know about the OPEN/CLOSED knob under the front edge of the seat?

And the left pedal under the front edge of the seat?

Certainly a dealer should be able to order manuals for you.

The light only has two positions and the middle non-button does nothing. It's just there to confuse us. So you figured all that out correctly.

The pedal is the differential lock. Makes both back wheels spin together. Use if one wheel is slipping to give you extra traction. You shouldnt make turns while pressing diff lock.

The open-close knob slows the rate of gravity descent of the 3ph. If you have a heavy implement on the 3ph with the knob all the way open, and then drop your 3ph, it will drop like a rock .... kerplunk .... or kersmash. As you close the knob, the 3ph will drop ever more slowly. Sometimes vibrations while brushcutting will cause the knob to open on my tractor. The first several times my mower kerplunked down with unexpected speed I couldn't understand why.

I am a boxblade atheist, but those who have them usually seem to advise a width to cover your rear tracks. The issue then becomes how heavy a box you can effectively use before it bogs you down.

I use a 6' rear blade on my B2910. It is what I had with my L2900. I use it for mostly snow but I have been using it on my driveway and by B2910 pulls it great. A 5' will be easy for it to pull. If I was you I would get the 5'. Since I already had the 6' I wasn't going to fool with getting a new one.

Thanks, glennmac. That helped a lot.

GaryinOregon,

I don't think there has been much of a debate about using the 5' box blade on a b2910...seems like the consensus is to use one that is wider than the rear tires...my tires are something like 54" wide on the outside...so 60 inches is just slightly wider.

As for a rear blade and snow, I have a 6 footer but might even like a seven footer...six is enough to still cover the tracks when angled though, so wider is not really necessary on a B2910.

I am really happy with my B2910. I bet you will be too. I made a last minute decision to go with the 2910 after deciding on a 2410 last summer.

One mistake I made was buying a 5' RFM. I would suggest if you go with a RFM that you get a 6' unit. This will stick out a little more beyond the rear tires and make cutting close to things like a fence line MUCH easier [at least I believe it would]. I decided to take the hit and trade my little used RFM in on a 60" MMM with a bx2200 attached to it... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif It's possible I may be seeing the new MMM next week...or the week after... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif...they are in short supply around here and the dealer has to rouun one up from someone...

Enjoy that new tractor...and don't forget...tractors are tools, NOT toys! The are work to use, NOT fun. It's hard working on that tractor all the time, but you have responsibilities and someone has to do it... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

GaryinOregon,

Welcome to TBN and the B2910 owners group. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Definitely get all the manuals for the tractor. I would suggest a local dealer or internet dealers as well. Whichever is more convenient.

The B2910 should be able to handle a 5' boxblade. I have a Woods HB60 for mine. I haven't used it too much, but initial impressions are favorable. With any implement that will be scraping the ground, you want as much weight as possible.

I have a 6' HBL-72-2 rear blade too, which I think is well suited to the size of the B2910.

I just ordered a 5' tiller that is at the dealers now. I'm going to make delivery arrangements this week.

Your light switch only has the two positions you found. Beats me why it is designed to appear to have more than that. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The open/closed know controls the rate at which the 3 pt. hitch arms lower.

As far as the differential lock, it locks the two rear wheels together. CAUTION: Do not try to engage this pedal while the wheels are spinning, it could damage the pawl locking system...a very expensive repair. Also, as pointed out, don't steer when engaging the differential lock.

I usually just step on the differential lock, slowly depress the hydro pedal, and once the tractor is unstuck, I let up on the differential lock.

You've got a great tractor and have found a great resource for information.

Good Luck and stay safe.

~Rick

Hi Gary,
I too have a B2910, and love it very much. I have a 5' box blade, and I would guess that I have well over 50 hours of hard use with it, and the tractor handled it fine. I have a 6' back blade that also works fine. Don't get anything wider than a 6' back blade until you check and make sure it will rotate around freely past your 3PH arms and tires. My 6' just clears. Some back blades have a longer setback than others and may allow more width.

You have found the "Tractor 101 site". You will be amazed at the questions that can be answered here. So don't be shy about asking. Remember we were all in your shoes at one time.

In reference to the 3 symbols by the light switch, the one you can't turn it to is just the symbol for "lights". The other 2 are for on and off. I've always thought about taking mine apart and rigging up a horn button in the center of my light switch. Don't know why, just thought it would be cool.

If you have any specific questions about the B2910, there are several of us that have them, and between us we can probably answer most of your questions. I'm getting close to 500 hours on mine, and I'm still amazed at all it can do.

Congratulations on a great purchase /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
