How much manure can you spred on pasture/hay feild?

you guys talk pounds per acer? number of application times per year?


My old neighbor has about 15 horses in way to small a space. He has quite a few piles of manure out back, and was considering spreding some on my 3 acer front "hay feild"..... which is then cut on shares. (and i think im going to continue to have done)

This came up for $450.... "working condtion, good floor"

During the winter, I spread around 120 bushels a week (30% manure 70% shavings) in my Tifton 85 hay field. I try to spread it in a different place every time and after a few good rains you really can't see it. I've stopped using that field now that I've fertilized and it's greening up. During the summer, I'll use one of my bermuda fields that I won't bale as much and switch to a cow pasture a few weeks before cutting & baling.

In my case the horse manure is not a problem...the spreader breaks it up pretty fine. The issue is the pine shaving that we use for bedding in the barn. It takes longer to breakdown and sticks in the bales. If you're just spreading manure, it wouldn't be much of an issue other than the tire tracks and ruts you'll put all over your field while spreading it.

That spreader looks like mine used to...have had it for 12+ years and still works fine except for a fender that I need to repair and reinstall this summer...and I paid about that much back then, so if it's in good condition I would say that's a decent price.
