Maple Sugaring??

Hey, I like this new guy!

When my buddy and I tried sugaring in high school we tapped sugar maples on his grandma's forty with 1/2in copper pipe with two saw cuts on top created a strip of copper that can be bent up for a hook. stored sap in new plastic trash cans and boiled with borrowed large shallow SS homemade pan.

Grandma's place sold about the time I bought mine, but only had silver maples in lot, Yep they worked!

just started making sryup last year one qeustion is how often should we boil. today (wednesday) i just got 15 gallons can i save it untill saturday since i cant play hooky from work thursday it is supposed to cool down tonight high 20 and mid 30s until weekend

The sap will keep until the weekend, or for several days if you keep it in a cool place. As the sap degrades you will see it turn cloudy. When we have enough snow I pack snow around our storage barrels to keep them cool.
