Interesting topic... my buddy told me a story about pot vs. alcohol and the domestic family abuse it brings. Supposedly(statistically) alcohol creates more family/wife/children abuse compared to pot users. My buddy was at a trade show and our fine men in red - rcmp were there with a display of drugs -heroine, pots, lsd etc. My buddy is very smart and likes challenging others and the status quo... so with a few people milling about the display - he asks the question to the rcmp rep: do you guys have stats on the following - pot vs. alcohol and the family abuse it brings? The other lookers stopped, paid attention and waited for a reply - there was non! Absolutely no comment or response... he pressed the question but got nowhere...

That's kind of like asking if the police have stats on how much domestic violence is related to cheating and since those stats are probably not kept and therefore no numbers to report, trying to make an implication that cheating does not cause domestic violence.

But, while it has been a while since I was a cop, I can say Ive been called to many domestic disturbances caused by one party finding out the other has been cheating.

I believe DABSGT hit it dead on in his posts.

Here in california I have a script for 99 plants and can possess 16 pounds. The state doesn't even want to mess with it. If you get caught with more than what is stated on your script (mine is about as high as you can get) they call the Feds and let those knuckleheads deal with it. I pay extra for the high numbers on the script. It's called a growers script. Gettin close to harvest time. Then I can help all the sick people in Cali. I'm doing Gods work. Your welcome.

Thank you! :D

An acre? What about one plant for 2x2 feet, or 4 sq ft? One acre might produce 11,000 plants. Can one plant produce $200?. That's about $2.3 million for one harvest.

One plant can produce about a $1000 if you do it right. (Or so I've heard)

And that is a big part of the problem.

Why the heck is a plant that can be grown with ease and minimal care worth a $1,000?

Because someone decided it should be illegal. Now does burnieman have $99,000 worth of plants? Can he "stock" 16lbs at a value of $500 a lb or $5,000 a lb (Marijuana Prices in the U.S.A.)

If anyone in the U.S. could go out and sow a dozen plants what do you think the street value of pot would approach?

If you could legally go out next year and put in a "herb plot" 100' by 100' and expect to be able to harvest $99,000 worth of pot from it for legal sale to cancer patients would you?

If you've ever brewed beer you'd know "cheap beer" from the 7-11 is easier and cheaper than brewing a few cases.

Pot is not that difficult. It's like making moonshine from SCRATCH by growing your own corn - except all the work stops after you harvest the corn.

I'm against smoking pot. Smoking anything is bad. However there are other forms of consumption.

What do you figure a plant is worth in Mexico?

My family made whiskey after the depression when there was no work to be had. They made good money for the times, and my grandfather paid for it with a year and a day in the state pen. But making whiskey is not easy. It is hard work. And to make good whiskey is like any other craft. You have to know what you are doing and care about the product you put out.

And to say it is easy to grow pot is like saying it is easy to farm. But you don't have to worry about the added burden of theft or arrest when your crop is soybeans or cotton. You still have all the other ills of farming, ie... lack of rain, too much rain, hail, cut worms, grasshoppers and a hundred other things that will ruin a crop. Anyone who has done it will tell you it is anything but easy. Around here there used to be some growers who had made a name for themselves. They were able to supplement their income by selling a little herb every fall. But for some Joe Blow to try to make money off it, he will spend more time for the return than it's worth. From what I have heard, after NAFTA passed, there was a steady supply of fresh Mexican at much lower prices than the domestic had been bringing. Like folks shopping at Walmart, low price is king. Unless you had a well known name, you had to bring your prices down closer to the Mexican imports.

Just my two cents.

We call it ditch weed in Iowa. Don't know if it is the same stuff you smoke but it looks like it. I think it is hemp. If hemp grows everywhere here would the stuff you smoke do well too? Here when you open ground no matter how small spot it is you might be sure there will be ditch weed growing shortly after. When I bought my property there was a feed lot on the back. Shortly after the renter removed the cows there was a forest of weed. I had no clue what it was until my neighbor told me. The plants were at least 6-10 ft tall and few inches thick. I tried to use Grasshopper mower to knock them down but it was impossible. Then at fall I tried to burn it but there was not enough fuel density to sustain the fire. My neighbors were joking that I wanted to get them all high. I gave up on getting rid of it. Year later the plants were only about 3-4 feet tall and every following year got smaller. I think about four years later there were only few scattered plants.
I did some reading about the hemp story in Iowa. Hemp used to be a crop during WW1. Hemp A War Crop for Iowa – Global Hemp

There was a saying when I was a kid. Down south they grow dope. Up north they grow rope. Folks from down here have been known to go up north and bring back a truck load of your ditch weed and cut it with cheap Mexican. You could smoke a pound and all you would get is a sore throat.

Hemp is where good rope and canvas comes from. We have to buy ours from Canada and Mexico because industrial hemp is not allowed in the states. But as a pine tree farmer, I guess that is a good thing. If you could grow fiber for OSB in one year instead of fifteen or twenty like with pines, I would be up the creek.

Not the same stuff. 'Skunk weed' is what we called it.. the 'good stuff' is a lot harder to get right than simple planting..
