Just asked my brother about Marvel Mystery Oil. He is a Cummins Diesel Mechanic.
I asked him what he thought about me putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil of my truck.
He replied "Do you know what is in it?"
I said "No"
He said "Then why do you want to put it in your engine?"
LOL /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
He tends to shoot from the hip on stuff like this.
I still am considering using it to help fix my sticking valve issue.

Boy Shady, I guess you sure are smart. You know so much more than all these people that have been using it for the last 80 years. You must be rich being so smart. Just think, selling it for 80 years and it is only #1 kero. They sure must have been smart to to make it work all these years, and to think people have been happy with what it has done. Guess I'm pretty dumb, not rich and don't know how to sell some no good thing and fool the people like that and get rich.

I just did a quick internet search for 'Marvel Mystery Oil' and up came a DOD Hazardous Material Information chart for MMO from Cornell University.

DOD sheet

If I read the info sheet correctly, MMO is mostly mineral spirits, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and napthenic hydrocarbons. Now I am not a scientist but I have no idea what those hydrocarbons are.

For gas engines, I've been using Redline S1-L fuel additive. Just add a bottle every 5-10 fill-ups or so. We like old BMWs, and we're told that BMW actually endorses/recommends this stuff. In my experience, it's unusual for a car manufacturer to endorse an after-market additive. It's supposed to do a nice job on cleaning up the valves and injector system.

Kinda like silly putty.. no real use.. but they've been selling it for years! Ok.. it bounces.. you can push it on newspaper and the print will show on the putty..

You'd think then after 80 years they'd have some scientific facts to show what the benefits are..

No reason to flame someone for their opinion.. or degrade them w/ sarcastic remarks

If you are speaking of me, about sarcastic remarks, well you and the other guy are both knocking a product you don't really know that much about. I don't believe either him or you or your brother are chemist, to know what is in it. As far as it being like kerosene, well it would have to have either a oil or water base, and to go into an engine, I think it would just about have to be an oil base. And from there on, neither you, nor I know what else is in it. But then again you buy motor oil and you nor I really know what else is in it, besides the oil as additives. Or you could go on to a lot of things we use all the time, and we don't know just what is in them, but we believe they are doing what we buy them for, so it really don't matter very much. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't know if it's good or bad for engines but I use it for air tools and on my stones when I sharpen knives and chisels.

Dick.. I was more poking fun.. then knocking.. didn't mean to offend.. sorry if I did. I was hoping you would list/share the benefits you've seen using it in your vehicles, tractor etc... besides.. we already know how smart Shady is! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Sorry Shady..
