Marvel Mystery Oil

This is not to any one person.
I had all of these disclaimers, not only every where else but also on TBN ever time you say something. But, any way, guys why all of the bickering? This is just like synthetic vs regular oil, Ford vs Chev, Kubota vs JD, drop it before we all get into trouble and the thread is shut down.

"Brad, I don't know about the newer generation of autos, but about 25 years ago, a mechanic in whom I had a great deal of confidence, told me add 2 quarts of ATF to an already full crankcase, start the engine and let it run at idle, don't drive it, for 10 minutes, then drain it out and put in fresh oil to free up sticking lifters. It worked for me."

The best way to free up sticking lifters /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif is to not own any---OVERHEAD CAM /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. That stuff may free lifters temporarily but I doubt it is a cure. Whatever underlying cause resulted in the "sticking lifters" would likely still be present only to again manifest itself /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. If your car needs all kinds of geriatric treatments like STP and MMOil and radiator Stop Leak and Octane in a Bottle and various other Snake Oil products you probably just need a new car /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. My truck engine is a 350 Chevy. I don't know if that means it is an overhead cam engine. The 350 engines have been around for a long time which leads me to believe they are a good engine. Anybody know what the usual cause for the valves to start sticking could be? I have always used 10-30 Castrol oil and changed it every 3000 miles. The oil looks dirty when I change it which I suppose is normal. I was told once that not driving the truck much could cause the valves to stick. Is this true? If so why would lack of use make the valves stick?

Shady and Pruntyc, it is OK, agreement is not always possible. Anyways, don't leave mad or leave TBN altogether, please hang around. There will be some other great subject to take apart soon enough and you will not want to miss out--I am sure /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. J

Don't leave. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Different ideas and opinions is one of the things that makes TBN a great place. Just think, how much a person can learn here from that diversity. Just agree to dis-agree and enjoy the place. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Shady:

You are too smart for your own good.

I use MMM oil in the spindle of my vertical mill. It's light enough than when I start it, it sprays all over my shirt!! Besides, I like the smell of it!!
